Info Please? Egg container?

CaliRepGuy Jan 20, 2010 12:55 PM

I am going to try the method of eggs on light diffuser panels over water in the egg container. This is my first time using this method as I previously have used vermiculite.

How far from the eggs should the water level be? How much water should I put in the container?

Thank you

Kevin

Hi,

I am just curious if you are trying this method because of problems with the vermiculite, or just cheaper and cleaner? I am in my first year of potential eggs and I am going to use vermiculite and perilite. I was on the bubble, but I have decided this method first.

Hello, I have had some egg loss with vermiculite and it is very messy. I tried perlite and it is still a bit messy. I also get burrowing from the newly hatched snakes with substrate. The burrowing can cause the unhatched eggs to be disturbed and even rolled around.

I am going to try the switch.

You only need maybe a half inch of water in there. Just leave enough space so that if any water sloshes when you move the box it doesn't hit the eggs.

i agree 100% with Jason......just enough water to to get the eggs wet when you move the box around.
