New York Anti-Reptile Bill A07935
Prohibits the ownership, possession or harboring of a wild animal or reptile;
makes violation a class E felony.

So if they can't get us on a national level the haters will get ya on the state level. If usark battles each of these states at their level they'll just go from city to city enacting a ban.

Is it me or did we open a can of worms. It seems with us contacting or reps and senators for help they did the opposite and are doing more to hurt us. How many states is it now that are or have all ready banned. This is total crap. I guess our govermant does not work for we the people only the misunderstood and bullshiters. MIke

Legislation against exotics on the state level isnt new... several states already have very stringent laws regarding reptiles.... It makes more semse for the states to have control over this than the Federal gov't though... since each state has it's own climate etc

No this was and has always been the next step the animal rights wackos were and are going to take. they can get us on the Federal level they are working state by state Plus its not the Reptile nation that been in the News its the false USGS Reports and crazy over blown by media Florida death and "ENP" issue This is was unavoidable2 been warning that this would happen for months now Plus if the federal Laws S373 H.R.2811 pass State by State bans will start to occur at an accelerated rate The federal Law would give them a precedence a reason to enact such ridiculous laws in there state officials distorted view

It looks like this is only for wild ones. I think they mean wild animals as the furry or feathered kind and "reptiles" as wild also.

I'd contact your fish and game for clarification.

I agree Jessica. This one, I'm not sure is for captive bred animals. What we really need to do is have USARK(from what I have been told they are already starting to formulate a plan) get our boas, pythons and reptiles classified as DOMESTIC animals. This should in theory, make them untouchable. Thanks. Mike Panichi

The New York Environmental Conservation Law Section 11-0103 was passed in 2003. In its original form it had all Boas & Pythons black listed in New York state. My self & the Long Island Herpetological Society ( LIHS )were instrumental in assisting Senator Marcelino to ammend the bill down to the top 5 Giant constrictors ( Burms - Rocks - Retics - Anacondas & Amethystines ). As written today it is illegal to possess any of those top 5 - however all of the other Boas & pythons are completey legal to own in our State. Now - this new Bill ( A07935 ) mentioned in an earlier post here on Kingsnake states the Following
" to prohibit the ownership, possession or harboring of wild animals and reptiles as defined in accordance to paragraph e of subdivision six of section 11-0103 of the environmental conservation law, and to classify violations of section 370 as class E felonies."

Now section 11-0103 of the NY Environment Conservation law lists the top 5 Giant constrictors - all crocodilians - All Venomous reptiles and a few giant Monitor lizard species. This is the list that they are talking about in A07935 and not ALL Reptiles -just the ones listed. I hope this helps clear some things up for you all. Also - if your concerned about any new bills that may concern you in your States - it is your right as an American to contact your State Senators to voice your opinions. We did it here in New York back in 2002 & they did listen & they did ammend the Bill. Now lets hope we can all work together to help voice our oppinions on S373.
