Albino x Albino breeding question

EmberBall Jan 20, 2010 06:03 PM

So, I am more of a Ball Python guy than a Boa guy mostly based on the adult size of Boas vs. Balls, but I do have a stunning pair of Albino Boas. They are both supposedly Het Stripe, and visual Albinos. My question is, is there an issue breeding Kahl line Albino x Albino?

As long as you're sure that they are from outcrossed parents and totally unrelated then by all means put them together. Good luck to you...

A Khal line albino is a normal albino. Khal x Sharp line albinos will make hets.

What?

You asked "is there an issue breeding Kahl line Albino x Albino?"...

There are two types of albino boas, there are kahl albino boas and there are sharp albino boas. By saying "is there an issue breeding Kahl line Albino x Albino?" you are basically asking if there is an issue breeding an albino to an albino, because without saying "sharp albino", "albino" is pretty much saying you have a kahl albino, kahl being the original of the 2 albinos.

The kahl strain albino and the sharp strain albinos are not compatible, so breeding the 2 will NOT make any albino babies, just hets. Breeding a kahl to a kahl or a sharp to a sharp will result in all babies being that strain of albino.

Dude, nevermind.

I was asking if there is an issue breeding two Kahl Albinos together, like will there be one eyed snakes, only slugs, or other issues. I neve said anything about Sharp Albinos or double hets.

i know where youre coming from......

i would say that nowhere near enough breedings have been done to be sure if albino X albino results in one eyed, deformed young etc

Personally i would put them together and see what happens....

if you get bad results then they can be added to the statistics....

if you get good results then the stories of 'one eyed freaks' gets a little weaker

Just my 2 cents worth of course

Yeah, they are my only two Boas, so they are going to go together this year. My female is average looking but the male is amazing white with brick red patterns. They are both evil, so I really have not had them out for pics
