question on ban?

yerger1 Jan 22, 2010 06:18 AM

I am curious about this ban. The gov. seems to be specific when it comes to retic python, yellow anaconda etc.but when it comes to boas they just list boa constrictor.Would this cover the entire boa species? As I understand it all boas are constrictor with the various sub-species, imperator for example. If I am correct in my thinking, then won't this ban take out all boas including the hogg islands, niks etc. Also what happens to the constrictor x hogg island types? Certainly there should be some split between the 5-6 ft types and the big boys.I think the self-serving politico's should find other issue's more pressing. If there has to be a compromise, than this should be more clearly defined.Give them the two big pythons and the anacondas.I don't see alot of people making there living off the ana's anyway.Take the nra's approach, fight tooth and nail and in the end give them the full auto m-16's and keep there hands off the rest.Just a few thoughts.

Whether or not the feds will be subspecies specific with the B. contrictor complex probably remains to be seen. I suspect they will NOT recognize the subspecies and just list B. constrictor. Some state laws that do not allow the possession of indigenous species only go to the species level. I believe Georgia is an example of this. Even though a honduran milksnake wouldnt occur in Georgia, Georgia law states you cant keep L. triangulum. The proof of subspeciation is probably too difficult to sort out, so they will probably just ban all of B. constrictor.

That's a damn shame! The hoggs recently caught my interest and looking through this site I can see some people have spent an incredible amount of time and money to come up with the current morphs. So what happens if this passes? Are they s.o.l? What happens to inventory? The everglades issue was starting to gain some steam down here but really caught fire when those two jack-asses got the kids killed. The one big python was free to roam the house with small kid(I think 4 yrs old) Unbelievable!
