what happens in the last years....

aberrant Jan 23, 2010 03:36 AM

a long time only visiting the forum, but provide nothing.

when reading your post - things I missed - I have to add this:

Foto Safari in Kenya....I really miss this feeling wake up early morning, cold and wet - drive into the no man's land and searching cats... it is just like going around and lift each big stone or branch, looking into wholes

in 2009 we were in India - to find the tigers.....
very difficult but at the end we found them in Kanaha & Bandhavgarh.... some pictures will follow later

OK....some changes to mentioned

here are the latest new friends, bought them in 2008 as
semi adults - and breed them firstly last year.

OK no milks - but very intersting creatures, always activ in the cage - on the branches, always present.....

don't be afraid I still have them and love them.....

Steffen those frenata are beautiful. They have been at the top of my "must get" list for a while now.
Those are some incredible shots from your travels too! Thanks for posting.

The text was just as enjoyable as the photos. Thanks for the insight.

Are those brown snakes Trinket Snakes? You mentioned that they are "always active in the cage - on the branches, always present".

I'm a Sojourner on the road seeking the Ideal snake that is active and amiable. I love Kings & Milks, but they can spend so much time hiding unless you handle them to encourage motion.

Are Trinket Snakes a possible solution for me? (I've had a Black Rat snake in the past, but she was quite shy and somewhat neurotic from being kept in a undersized enclosure.)

Do they tend to be MUCH more active, consistently, than Kings & Milks?

Aside from a general Google search, any suggested URL to get more about Trinkets??

hI,

sorry for the late feedback - these are the green trinket snakes "Elaphe frenata"......
yep there are more present and active then most of other snakes, the adults and the h´juvenile ones are activ three days after feeding.
Mostly activity zone is during the day.

But:
they do not like to be taken out, if trying to get them out of the cage they become nervous. hondurensis become more relaxed if they grow, frenatas doesn't - the cage is located at a quite place - I would avoid to place them in rooms with traffic.

30 % - 40 % of the size is tail - they need branches and plants.
In summer it becomes about 30° Cel [sorry - more familar with the metric system] in my room and you will noticed that it is near to hot for them - the only occasions you see them in the water.
Typically the are on the branches or on the ground, but they also crawl into the ground sometimes in summer.
So they are indicating that their natural habitat is the mountain area [India, Myanmar, Laos and China].

Hatchlings are about 35 cm and far away from eating mice. I assume that small lizzards and frog will be prefered.

By the end of the day you have to decide if the environmental thinks can be presented and that this animal is what you want.

take care, when wc offered - they have a long journey....

each kind of snake have "good" and "bad" thinks....
I like the Fea's viper [saw a beutyful picture ....a really long time ago] and two years ago I was in the situation to get them....but never playing with poisons at home, I do not have a room which can be cold down in summer, they are real shy animals....so you have a lot of things which must match - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azemiopinae

sorry - forgot to mention...I did not took them,
same for boeleni I cannot offer the best place they need and [have to mention that I think to sell all snakes and equipment and use the room as one big cage....] also the requirements for temp & humidity....

I have learned my lessons and try to get animals, whcih are feeling well in the habitat I can offer...
