Touch Decision

I am looking for some advice. I have an absolutely gorgeous bright orange male BRB that I have tried breeding for three seasons and had no luck. I can tell if the problem is in my methods or if it is more of an issue of him "shooting blanks". I am pretty sure I am not going to intentionally breed anymore but I am having a tough time deciding if I should keep him just in case or if I should let him go to a home where he would have a lot more attention. Any thoughts, suggestions, or ideas are welcome.

Have you seen visual breeding activity with him wrapped on a female? There is ALWAYS the possibility a individual snake was mis-sexed or even mis-marked. Although it's typically the other way around, think it's a female when it's actually a male.

He has been probe-sexed twice as male by a local pet store and then my vet.

I have seen mating between him and females, but no babies.

Hmmmm, if he was actively courting and nothing came of it, no ova fertilized or not, sounds more like a female issue. If the male were "shooting blanks" there would be slugs.

The "females" in the equation, have they produced litters? Were they temp cycled? How long was the male left with them? If not successfully bred (or even produced slugs) are you certin they are females?

During the mating process was there visible pushing and shoving around? That could be an indication of two males.

The females are Copper and Cherry (the female you sold to me) both have had litters, Cherry has never bred for me but you said you had plenty of litters from her. They were temp cycled according to BRB Breeding 101. The male was with them from January 30 - April 15th. No shoving, there was definitely some wrapping around as well as visual penetration. I've never seen a sperm plug in the water bowl or anything though.

That is a tough one. Cherry is a proven female and should be doing something. Although I've seen a male not impregnate any female in a given season. I'd get another male and continue to try Sango until the other male was old enough to breed.

Yeah at the moment between work and school I dont have the time or the money for another snake, which is why I am also not breeding for a few seasons. That was an easy decision to make, still not one that I enjoy though.
