Anyone Been to Belize???

summitreptiles Jan 25, 2010 10:29 PM

In March I am going on a cruise that stops in Belize City for about 8 hours and wanted to know if anyone had been there and had any luck finding Boas somewhere reasonably close to Belize City (Aside from the Zoo). Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I just wanted to thank everyone for their efforts fighting S373 and tell everyone to keep it up!

Thank You,

Check around the graveyard on the western hiway. Lots of "Wish Willie's"[Ctenosaura similis] and some HUGE Boas were always being caught or killed there, one over 12' long. They live in the crypt's...thanks..Also go to Cay Caulker and look around he dump for the diminutive one....You can take a water taxi...

Thanks Tom, I assumed you had been there. I will check it out. Also, do you know if there are any Eyelash Vipers or Fer de Lance there close by? Those are two that I would love to catch a glimpse of as well.

Also, do you think you could point this spot out on a map or maybe give me a some way to communicate where to go to a driver? Any help would be great. I don't think I will have time to go to Cay as well, I only have 8 hours there, so I want to make the most of my time.

Thanks,
Brandon Weik

I wouldn't know personally but I believe after a search I found
that both of those species are supposed to be found in Belize

I believe I remember seeing a TV program that showed similar info

You are correct sir. Crawl Cay in fact is in the Turneffe chain but too far for him to go in just 8 hours. Cay Caulker on the other hand is only about an hour off the coast of Belize....thanks and I've been to ALL the places I mentioned...

Your best bet is to go to the water taxi place in Belize City and go to Cay Caulker. There for sure you will see American Crocodiles, Spiny Iguana's[by the thousands], and possibly Cay Caulker Boas. All are around the dump. You don't have time to see schlegeli and it has to be in the evening to find the Tommygoff[Bothrops asper]. Your best bet is Cay Caulker....

The amount of time you have to spend is your only real problem. Thanks

Yeah, tell me about it.... I wish I was there for a few days, but I do get to visit Grand Cayman as well to see the Iguana Sanctuary there, so I guess you have to give a little to get a little right!

You know of anything I should check out in Cozumel or Costa Maya? Those are my other two stops on the trip.
