I want to hear from you!
Presently, I am filling the role of Secretary for the Rat Snake Foundation. I am also heading up the project to produce a Morph/Locality Guide to the Asian Rat Snakes, much like the Guides we have put together for the North American Rat Snakes and the Corn Snakes we currently have available on our website.
Just to get started on the Asian Rat Snake Morph/Locality Guide I am focusing on the Chinese Beauty Snakes (Orthriophis taeniurus taeniurus) as it is presently the species of Asian Rat Snake with the most morphs presently known to exist.
The list I have thus far compiled as far as morphs go is as follows:
T Amelanistic
T- Amelanistic
Anerythristic
Melanistic
Calico
Freckled
Snow?
Golden-phase (possible locality?)
Green-phase (possible locality?)
Lavender
Reduced Pattern
Striped
Platinum (Axanthic/Patternless)
Axanthc?
Patternless?
What we at the Rat Snake Foundation are looking for are:
-The standard designation used for the alleles that produce the above listed morphs, as used in a punnett squares (I have a background in genetics as it is, so I can provide the standard allele designations according to accepted scientific guidelines if needed)
-If morphs are the result of multiple alleles, then the involved genes need to be identified
-Origin of the morph or locality data (if available) on the snakes
-When and by whom the morph was first produced
-Pictures of animals exhibiting the morph or as an example of the locality ranging from hatchlings all the way to adults (photographer credits are included in the guide for these as well as credit for the source information)
I am specifically interested in hearing from anyone who is working with these morphs as the "founder" stock in our hobby, and those working with animals that are either WC or directly related to WC stock, if suitable information is available. Also if you have any contacts in China or neighboring countries that may be able to shed light on the origins of these animals, I would be greatly appreciative if you could point me in their direction.
You may send all information to either of the following email addresses:
ian.secretary@ratsnakefoundation.org
wrathraptor@gmail.com
Also, with all of that said, I am not limited to receiving information solely on the Chinese Beauty Snakes. I am more than happy to accept information on any of the other Orthriophis taeniurus subspecies at this time as well.
As for the other Asian Rat Snakes and those of you working with them. Fear not, I will be wanting to hear from you as the project continues, and I am certainly willing to receive any information you may possess as well at this time.
I look forward to hearing from you, and I hope you will be just as excited and interested in this project as we are at the Rat Snake Foundation.
Ian
