Argentine POS question

NUCCIZ_BOAS Jan 26, 2010 02:40 PM

Several years ago, I bred an albino male to an argentine female. Everything went great. 33 healthy babies and 6 slugs. But the female never had a post ovulation shed.

Since then, I have bred several colombian morphs, and every one of them have had a POS, and like clockwork, delivered babies around the day 105 mark, (give or take 5 days).

Well now, one of the female babies from my original albino x argentine litter, I decided to holdback and raise up to breed. She is now a 7.5 beast and bred with a salmontine het albino. (I cant wait to see these 50% argentine sunglows that come out of it!)

The breeding went perfect. Locked up multiple times, had a pre-ovulation swell that looked great, later on had her football ovulation that lasted about 18 hours, everything went like clockwork. Now she is all coiled up as fat as could be with the flat tire look.

Only problem is, like her mother, never had a POS. I am wondering if this is something with argentines? Has anybody ever had an argentine that had a POS? All of my colombians have had them like clockwork. But my argentine experiences have not. Just wondering if anybody could offer similar stories or say otherwise?

I have a female het albino that has had five litters for me and never had a POS. Just has big gorgeous litters everytime. I guess some of them just miss the rulebook sometimes. Interesting that you have two generations now that have produced in a similar fashion. There is more to genetics than most of us will ever know!!!!

I had a big Argentine that never had a pos, but did shed about half way through gestation. I did catch her ovulation though & she gave me 34 live babies 124 days after. I've had Colombians do the same too though.
