more snake drama- baltimore this time

snakejems Jan 26, 2010 06:19 PM

some women today, said she was bit by a cobra in a parking lot in baltimore county today, she there was a big stick on the ground by her car, she went to pick it up to move it out of the way, to find out it was a snake and bit her, she rush to patience first to get help and ended up in john hopkins for treatments and had to call falls road animal hospital to locate anti-venom. i do not know the results of her and the rest of story, it was on channel 11 news today and will be on tonight with more details at 11 pm, or just go to the web site under news for channel 11. this is a crazy story to believe and she is most likely making something up, i think she got bit at someone house and was told to take the snake to a location and make a big seen on his or hers behave, so they do not get in trouble or snake being taking by dnr or animal control, we all know that pythons, boas, poisonous snakes would not make it through maryland winter, this is not florida with a cold snap, its cold for the whole season, these type of snakes would die within 48 hours, this is my guess, so people stop hurting the reptile community and have respect to the hobbyist and business breeders that are in the united states, we can not afford these type of issues anymore because of people who do not care about their reptiles or do not want them because of size or food bills, please educate your self before buying snakes or lizards, so they can be happy and properly taking care of in our homes with out any trouble or drama, i will pray that congress or senate does not hear about this stupid story. thanks for all your support and time......mark

News Article & Video

There is plenty fishy about this story. The snake couldn't have been out long at night in Maryland, I agree. Furthermore, I highly doubt a person's first reaction would be to grab the snake and "bag" it. Also, they don't mention testing her blood for any venom. What if it was a dry bite? As one of the doctors in the video states: Anti-venom can be just as dangerous as venom in some patients.

There is too much information missing at this point to understand what is going on.

Good thing they got statements from an Animal Expert:

"While the woman said she stepped on the cobra in a parking lot, the Maryland Poison Center said it's not a public health issue and that they're confident there are no cobras running wild in Baltimore.

Animal experts said that in January, that's not even possible.

"In this temperature, there's no cobra out there running wild. It would be frozen. It's not just unlikely -- it's impossible," Hammond said."

Love the people who commented on the article! One guy said he's willing to bet there's an empty snake tank in her house.

Being as it's illegal to keep Venomous snakes in Maryland, she KNEW to bag it and bring it in with her for ID purposes, AND it didn't bite her multiple times while handling and bagging it, she's lying and it seems like everybody interviewed for this story KNOWS she's lying. Hopefully, they won't let this one slide! What an idiot!

Yeah, most likely she was bit at home and just drove to that Patient First place...and made up the story.
