Ryan Hoyer is a good guy and good friend too. His has nice animals from quaility stock. I'm biased but I think you would be very happy with your purchase from Ryan. If you choose too.

How is your cal king doing? Did it ever start feeding yet for you?

yankeeslover Jan 27, 2010 09:33 AM

nope, she is still cooling.. I will take her out around the 1st of march. I checked on her the other day when i changed her water and she looking good. im not gonna get any more snakes until after she is eating in march, i just want to have all my homework done beforehand(because had i did this last year, i would have known that kings can go off of feed, and would not have drove myself nuts for a month of her not eating.LOL)

You will have no problem with either. I'd get the snake you like. If you buy from Hoyer and get a locality animal, make sure you keep that information. It is info valuable if you ever sell or trade the snake.

Brian Barczyk and I have been mates for about 15 years at this point, and I've never had a problem with anything from him. Although i purchased animals from his back in the day, I still see him a few times per year and we shoot the breeze. He's great with everyone, and selling snakes is his life passion. I just saw him at a show this past weekend and i went behind his table and looked through his tricolrs and he had a number of beautiful (although non-locality) Arizona pyros on hand that were voluntarily feeding on thawed and live pinks. I don't know Ryan other than he took on a ton of snakes from Ric Blair and it's more locality-based pairings. In the end, just go with your instincts as to who you find a better fit to work with. Best wishes...

BHB is cool and a good guy! Also if you are in no hurry Robert Applegate will have some killer pyros later this spring.

Brian and Ryan are both great guys and have great animals.
Like Jerry said....Most of Brian's animals are generics, but not all.....And Alot of Ryan's animals are locality specific....

I've never heard anything bad about each of them....

Ryan Hoyer has very detailed info on each of his snakes, concerning feeding history, locality, hatch dates, parents, health, etc, etc and that has value as to how the snake will turn out for you. None of my snakes from Ryan Hoyer have had any problems whatsoever. I must say it is nice to have a large-scale pyro-loving pyro producer close to home. I would forget about the hognose and get 2 pyros of the same locality, but that is coming from a pyro fanatic, so make your own choices.

yankeeslover Jan 27, 2010 10:18 PM

i have actually thaught of forgetting the hognose and going w/two pyros instead. I have one picked out from ryans already, just a plain santa rits breed, i might get a kits peak or a flagstaff one also, I have not decided yet, I have two 10 gallon tanks each with a UTH already setup and ready to go, I was gonna get a hognose and a pyro, but im starting to lean towards two pyros, I just love the way they look. Im not sure what or if im gonna get the second one though as funds are limited, unless i get one of the cheaper flagstaff ones, I dont care what locality they come from, as they all look the same to me...Pete

My kitt peak male from Ryan is my favorite pyro by far. His colors are VERY bright and I love his wide white bands.

This next one is a female from the same year. Diff. locale. See the size difference!

joecop Jan 28, 2010 07:39 PM

This might give you a better idea. He is thirty inches long and she is like 20 or so.

Those Kitt Peak animals are killer, Joe! I dig the black crossovers and flames the best!

Pyros are great snakes and it's hard to go wrong with them. Although having kept and bred them for a number of years just be prepared for them going off feed in the winters. I have had very few adults feed through out the winter. A lot of people panic and think there is something wrong when they stop feeding as early as September.
