Hatchlings

badgecko5 Sep 19, 2003 08:15 PM

I have a couple of questions about leo hatchlings. First off how often should I feed (2 of them are just under 3 wks old, 2 are 10 days and one is 1 day old and has already taken a couple of pinheads) Next off one of the clutchmates to the ones above was hatching today and broke thru but not enough to get "her" head out, I watched her on and off for about an hour until she quit moving then began to worry so I used my forceps and eased the slit open until she could get out but it seems either I waited too long or she was too worn out, so I carefully placed her back in a deli cup with a little peat moss and have been watching her for about 7 hours and she is still not moving much, when she does its verrry slowly. I have to keep candling her just to see her heart beat. I am new to breeding and have not had any experience with hatching any input or ideas would be helpful.

I feed my hatchlings everyday until about 2 months old. missing a day here or there should be ok. your one in question could just be very weak and possibly wont make it. it happens alot. i wouldnt handle it at all until it starts moving around alot by itself, stress is the last thing the poor guy needs right now.

I feed my leos as much as they will eat regardless of age. I have never had one so fat or big as to be concerned with weight or health.

I will say that I think the newly "hatched" one is not alive. One of the reasons for the way they come into the world is to assure they are strong enough to make it. If they cannont get out of the shell, there is now way they will make it in the "wilds." Part of natural selection.

Thanx to all who replied. I feel I'm a little wiser now. As for the hatchling, she didn't make it.
