Did anyone catch Monster Quest on the History Channel last night about "invasive pythons?" I watched it last night. It was probably one of the most ridiculous loads of crap I have ever watched. They talked about the possibility of different species hybridizing to produce "super snakes" and even suggested that pythons and cobras could hybridize!!! They mentioned that there are King Cobras in South Florida as well, even though their was only one instance of an escaped King being found in S. Florida. They of course showed the USGS map and even stated that "killer pythons" would be able to migrate and thrive all of the way up to New York City's Central Park and that the sewers and subways are ideal environments for them. There was of course alot of hype about pythons being a danger to the public, pets, wildlife, etc and what python propaganda piece would be complete without bringing up the Sumpeter Co. girl's death by the "deadly rampaging python that broke out of its cage to strangle her"?

Pretty much the only good parts of the show were toward the end when the one guy said that venomous and pythons could not possibly hybridize and when they mentioned Hurricane Andrew as a factor for the snake's release.

I wonder how many of those snakes were actually plants for the show. There was one segment on there where they were using motion activated cameras to try to find pythons in a suburban neighborhood ( I don't remember where). And they happend to have caught in plain view in the middle of a shortly trimmed lawn an ~ 10-12' ALBINO burm. Yeah, right. They also just happened to find a 6 foot Burm in the road in presumably the same suburban area.

I don't see how those two snakes could NOT have been planted. Assuming it is that easy to find a burmese python on the side of the road (which it is not), when he picked up that snake it seemed tame. It didn't even turn to bite him when he picked it up. Of course, after he tightly grabbed it around its neck it got pissed off, and then he said how mean and nasty it was. The second one was a friggin' albino! And it was perfectly framed in the picture taken with the motion sensor camera. The guy "catching" these snakes is the same "wildlife biologists" who went looking for giant killer snakes in Central Park. Who is that guy? He should be shot by the scientific community.

I don't blame the snake at all. I would probably be mean and nasty too if someone grabbed my head. You're right, that one on the road was a tame one when he first picked it up.

I would like to track these guys down and confront them andx the damage they have done with their LIES!!!!!!

This is the guy who found the two pythons in the first show (the tame one on the side of the road and the albino one that was perfectly posed/framed in the photograph.) In the second show, he is the imbecile who was searching for killer snakes in Central Park.

The one you say is Larry the cable guy is named Bob Freer. He was on animal planets animal cops Miami and runs the Everglades Outpost. I never thought he was that bad but I think either a chance for fame or money must have changed him. But thats who that one is. The other douche who went to NYC and the one who doesn't know how to grab a mid sized python I don't know who they are. I've already emailed History channel asking who filled their pockets enough for them to sell out real science.

I forgot to mention this but does anyone remember seeing a add by Bob Freer selling a twenty foot Retic on kingsnake about a year ago. Couldn't be that big of a problem if even he is selling them.

Bob was not happy either!

They taped a bunch of him and edited it down to what we saw. He does not believe in what the show was saying..... He was not happy with the edits!!! They put him up against their other two efforts and he gave his opinion and they edited that out. His response was decent. I have emailed him more so we shall see what he says. I don't blame him for bad edits and he is not a fan out the outcome.

Hey Kevin, I have to agree with you, I was not to happy about the way the editing of the show was done. It was indeed misleading and did not give my full accounts of events. It is documented cobras are in Florida. They are near the Homestead AFB and were lost or released or escaped from a licensed handler Fred Dulin. We have caught a forest cobra, spitting cobra, and have seen the King. Fred Dulin was also raising green and black mambas. Venom One Unit has responded to two green mamba bites in the area since 2005.
Do I believe they can survive living all over the country? Absolutely not and I did not say they could. Someone else on the show claimed that they could and are spreading. I actually said it would never happen outside of Florida, but that was edited out. You did not listen to my exact words and are responding to the
experts they put before me and after me making crazy statements.
I could continue trying to defend myself but that would be as crazy as the show. I am on a Animal Planet show called " Miami Animal Cops" on rare occasions they misrepresent me. But for the most part a whole lot more truthful then What Monster Quest aired.
Fact are the pythons are a problem where I live. Are they a threat to people? No, of course not. Yesterday three of us went out and captured (14) in thee hours, so you are not going to convince me there is not a problem.
I too have worked my entire life with reptiles. 1964 to 1972 Catskill Game farm. 1972 to 1974 Berlin Germany Reptile farm. 1974 to present my own business breeding snakes ,alligators and crocodiles.
I have asked around and nobody seems to know who you are, what reptile community are you living in?
Will be hunting cobras in March. Rest easy, Monster Quest will not be invited.

Thats a great response, and he seems to have a good deal of experience, but, I still say he sounded VERY much like he was pumping the fear mongering side of things with the cobras with what I saw of him...edits can't change what he did say, and how he said it. I know the man lost any respect I had for him, and I imagine other "unknowns" in the herp community feel the same way.

Now THIS was a funny line from "Bob".

I was reading the article from the sun sentintinal in an above post and it had a quote from joe wasaluski that in late january he found 7 live abd 7 dead berms in one day. Now I think he and BOB are close and work together and 7 7=14 the same number bob said he and 4 guys found in 3 hours. Maby Bob is exagerating a little in his story and and both stories are the same incident.
One thing that is being left out of the entire discussion just because some bermese pythons survived the night of the cold snap does not mean they will survive the months to come from the RI'S and other effects of the cold night.

That child being "killed" by their 8' pet Python is BOGUS!!!!!

THere has been much said regarding this case and how it looks quite suspicious. More than likely it was the parents that took the childs life and then used the snake as the Scapegoat!

Nothing added up to the snake doing it. Social Services had already been out there and they were being monitored for child care issues.

and of course...

Non of this is made public..... THere have now been MANY cases that were blamed on Pet Snakes that have now been ruled otherwise..

Why does this stuff never make it into the News???
