Would this be an acceptable enclosure for a chameleon? Thanks for your help!

Hi,
I have a 65 gallon aquarium with the bottom haiving constanly running water and various islands and such that divide the water. Above is 50 gallons of dry area with tons of ledges and branches and vines. The entire top is mesh with lights hanging slightly above it. I was wondering if this would be a good home for a veiled chameleon or perehaps a pair of pygmy chameleons. If not do you have any suggestitions for what might find this a good home? Thank for your help - Mevi

I don't know about stumptail chameleons, (I think they are kept in aquariums), but glass aquariums for any chameleon that is not a pigmy chameleon, glass is not good. For a veiled you will definetely need a screen enclosure. I think stump tails need more ground space than anything, but you would have to research that, because I've never kept them. Hope this helps!

The water would worry me with the pygmies...they are clutsy little fellas, and even the tiniest bit of water could drown them.

As for the larger species, like mentioned above, you would want a screen enclosure.

that sounds a little more like a water dragon setup than a chameleon setup im not shure on that i haven't realy red that much about water dragons but you could look into one also depending on the shape of your cage it may have to move into a larger one later on because i think they get about 3-feet long

i hope this will help you

Chameleons would certainly die in this enclosure. The water would drowned them without a doubt. Get some semi-aquatic frogs instead, or a water dragon, blue water dragons are very nice. You may also want to consider a nice semi-aquatic snake.
