These guys are pretty cool

woodsracer Jan 28, 2010 01:25 PM

I know this is the "boa" forum, but these are another boa that gets isolated in it's own candoia forum that is as near death as a 105 yr. old smoker in a nursing home. So, maybe none of you get to see these too often. So, here's a pic of the mom and one of the babies. Hope some of you enjoy something a little different.

Thanks, and you're right, solomon island ground boas. I probably should've mentioned that, lol.

VERY COOL. Thanks for posting. Do you keep/breed other small ground boas as well??

Do you mean like Ford's boas and stuff like that? Honestly, I don't right now. I started the SIGB group, then picked up a few viper boas, and was on my way to just building a group of the "unusual" boas. Then I decided I should probably concentrate on one at a time until I have some success, then add to the collection. So, I sold the viper boas, and really miss them. They were ready to breed and I regret that decision, but I will replace them when I can. I'd like to pick up some cuban and haitian boas as well, and build a group of some of the other candoia species/sub species that are available. Do you work with some unusual boas? Drop me an e-mail sometime and we can talk some more. Thanks for the reply.

This is on top of a rubbermaid shoebox lid. You can just see the rubbermaid lettering behind the baby to make somewhat of a size comparison. They were around 5 grams at birth.

I wish I kept and bred them lol. I really like the candoia group but just never got around to getting any. I guess I have just been crossing my fingers waiting for more cb babies to be around.

I think nice clean viper boas are the coolest little things tho lol.

They definitely don't get the attention they deserve! Probably since they aren't a easy species to get started feeding on rodents. I had a litter of them years ago, went through a bunch of leopard geckos/anoles getting them switched to rodents, but they were fun to work with. And I love the cryptic pattern on them.. Thanks for posting!!!!

Hell yea! I love those things!

I know what you mean, I check tha candoia forum daily thinking maybe someone posted some viper boa pics, seems that only happens every few months or so though.

Thanks for the pics of the awesome snakes!

what do those guys go go for?

woodsracer Jan 29, 2010 10:40 PM

It's sort of a range based on color and background, wc, cb, or cbb. The last time I saw "whites" as babies for sale I think they wanted 200 each??? Imports when available are usually around 75-100, and in my opinion if you get one from a good source they're not a bad option. As far as I know, ALL of my sub-adults to adults are imports. I've never bought a newborn from someone, but have been told not to buy one just because you see it constrict a pinky. I guess that's pretty common, but actually eating it is completely different. That said, once they're on rodents, they really couldn't be easier to keep. Breeding wise, I don't have enough history with them to say if they're easy or hard, but just keeping them is pretty straight forward. Hope that answers your question and a couple more you might have had.
