Japaneese "silverback" patternless morph

pdragon1 Jan 28, 2010 06:08 PM

These have been around for a while in Japan but are new to the U.S. They are a proven recessive, patternless mutation. The babies hatch completely patternless right out of the egg. His last owner kept him on dirt. When he sheds out I will take another pic. Thanks and enjoy! Josh

He's a bit scared. Kept running from the camera. Josh

Are these along the same lines as the witblits dragons? www.witblits.com in Africa? Hatch out patternless? Do they create hets?

Thanks Josh, he is gorgeous!

pdragon1 Jan 29, 2010 03:22 PM

Yes. These silverbacks look a little bit different from the Witblits beacause they have been outcrossed to other lines. Thanks, Josh

When do you expect to have some babies for sale? Also, I noticed the price tag of the witblits is $4000-5000....how much do you think they will run once you start selling them to the public?

If everything goes well, I should have some available early next year. He is breeding now. Along with the silverback, I also purchased a group of 100% hets.

Not sure on pricing yet.

Thanks, Josh

They certainly are very pretty dragons. I think they are much better looking than translucents or silkbacks. My concern with these new morphs is always their hardiness. 2 month old dragons that are still only 6" long is a little scary.

JRhine Jan 30, 2010 08:42 AM

It's the same as any other morph though, even colors. Too much inbreeding, a responsible owner will outcross and make the lines super healthy and I know Josh is the perfect person to do that.

The silverback is probably one of the best, healthiest morphs I have ever purchased. He's robust, legs and tail are fat, eats well, etc. All the 100% hets are fat, grow quickly, and evenly. The guy who I got these from really did a good job. Japaneese reptile breeders are very much focused on quality.

The S.A. patternless grow slower than the rest of my dragons, but it's steady growth. I think one of the problems is that many other countries don't have the accessibility and variety of feeders like we do in the states. Also, the variety of bloodlines to outcross and make them better.

Thanks everyone for the complements. I really appreciate it. Josh

Hi Josh. This silverback looks good! That male witblits from me also looks good. I realy hope this is the same mutation. How are the other witblits dragons doing? People always seem to think that because they are this extraordinary they should have been inbred... Oh well so it goes. Hope you are doing well. Cheers

Wow--very cool-looking dragon, Josh. Hope you'll be working on a project with these; I'd certainly be very interested!
