Sweeeet John. How cool do you let them get?

My brumation chamber never gets above 56F, but drops to the mid 40s, especially at the bottom......I brumate ALL my snakes at these temps whether they need it or not......I love the break, but it get real bored taking care of only 20 or so young ones....LOL

Nice! Are those from Ric Blair's stock? Love the black mex mex, been wanting to get some, you know how how that goes?

Better yet Scott...Ric Blair got his black mex mex from a breeder by the name of Kim Caldwell. In 1999 or 2000 Kim closed her business and was offering her whole collection for sale....I called her up wanting her thayeri and mex mex and only was able to get her thayeri, cause a guy name Ric Blair beat me by a phone call to get her black mex mex.......

I can go farther back too.....Kim Caldwell got her black mex mex from Lloyd Lemke. Almost all black mex mex can be traced back to Lloyd Lemke....Tony Mangini's, Jim Sargent's, Ric Blair's, Bob Hansen's, Edz Exotics', Ryan Hoyer's and mine.....LOL

I was lucky to get a nice black male from Shannon Brown on a breeder loan this year......He will be bred to a granite female and a hypo-e female though......
But I did get a trio from Ryan Hoyer this year from adults that look like this (From Ric Blair(Lemke))....

The hatchlings in the pics are the 1.2 I am getting next week.....hehehe

All pictures below are courtesy of Ryan Hoyer.......

Missed by a phone call, at least you scored some! I heard that the lines came from Lloyd and spread out from there. I think Jim, got his from Ric? Those granites are smoking too, will be nice to see the neonates from that breeding with the black.

Yes all come from Lemke....And Jim did get his from Ric and now Ryan Hoyer has them.....
Tony Mangini had some too back years ago and now Edz Exotics has them....

Here are EdzExotics' black thayeri also from Lemke line.....

They are the parents to the two hatchling black phase in the first post I posted with the black animals...

Love the contrasting coloration. The black mex mex have to at the top of my list. You have some great looking mex mex there! This breeding season should be like XMAS for you!!

Thanks Scott....I am rather antsy....LOL

And just for clarification...the four posted above are not mine...I have 1.1 from them......

And don't forget....The Hypo-E trait will be bred into the Black & Granite phase as well this year......And for the next couple years until they get large enough to breed.....If this year is successful we are going to swap up the pairings a bit.....

With the Hypo-E trait bred back, you should get some very intense colored neonates. I'd be chomping at the bit too.

yep...I am a little nervous, anxious and happy at the same time...my finger are crossed for sure and I made many pinky mouse sacrificed to the snake gods recently.....LOL

I also want to work on this striping going on.....I wonder if it can be line bred for a longer stripe......We shall see....BTW these two are from the Hypo-E line too.......Produced by Shannon Brown and Boneyard Karl.....
And they are of Bob Applegate Lineage as I found out recently with some research....

Very nice John. May the snake Gods smile down on you...LOL! I think given enough time with line breeding you could pass that trait of the longer line on. Would be interesting to find out.

Actually the since they are all line bred traits or co dominant traits it may take shorter than we think......it will take some generations to make some pristine ones, but all I have is time.....LOL

And... Ryan already made the GRANITE X BLACK cross last year....
Although the black one isn't THAT black and the granite isn't THAT granite.....

Here are the parents and the 1.1 I am getting from them...

That 3rd one down is a screamer. What coloration are you going for? Darker more black, lighter more granite?

I am going for this:

With some of this:

And a little of this:

I would love to see a black mex mex with pink/salmon saddles, then a black mex mex with a pink/salmon granite pattern then eventually a Solid Black snake with Pink/Salmon Speckles......
It may take many generations, but it could also take just a few.....
I bet it will take years to refine exactly what I am after.....
But it is nice to be excited about a project again....

Put me on the hit list for all of those, they are just too sweet! It's makes breeding snakes all that much better when you have an idea of how you want them to look, and when you strive and reach it. It's living art!

Scott...
I don't know if there is any more room on the hit lists.... Email me when you get the time as we are not supposed to talk about "lists" on the forum....LOL

And you are right.....Having a project in its infancy is awesome.....And right now there aren't any other breeders (except for Ryan Hoyers granite x black 2009 cross) out there doing these crosses except Shannon and I this year......If/when it all works out I will be thoroughly elated...

Let's see how some of these young ones I have from Ed and Ryan will turn out....

That's the strange thing about the pigment morphs and mex mex....the babies hatch out looking normal and the black phase ones will darken with each shed and the Hypoerythristics will lighten their saddles up with each shed....it would be cool to see a single snake do both though.....
