Who said MTSs are nocturnal?

Flavia Guimaraes Sep 19, 2003 09:20 PM

I m keeping my MTS' cage close to a large opened window so Leonardo, my MTS lives according to the outdoors whether.Of course i control that and as soon as the temp outside gets too hot i close the window and i turn the air condo on.The last few days the weather is cloudy, gray and not so hot.Around low 80's.The rainy season is starting so the level of humidity is still higher (300%??lol!).Since the weather becomes cloudy Leonardo wakes up at 7.30 in the morning to EAT! Yes, right now (its 10AM now) i went to his cage to check him and he is still eating his POTHOS leaves, 100% awake!I think the fact of being nocturnal/diurnal depends on the outdoors temperature!MTSs dont like heat and open blue sky. When the day is like that he hides in his hiding place until the night falls. When the day is cloudy and less hot he goes out and eats during the day! When i bought Leonardo the weather temp was too hot and he slept for days and nights in a row.Now that the temp are lower and the days are cloudy he has been acting pretty active and diurnal, even eating during the day. What do you think about that?

Hi Flavia,

Corucia are actually Crepuscular-optimately preferring twilight hours. Thus on cloudy days, it is dim enough to trigger the active response.

Sincerely,

I think you are right (as usual, lol!) When i returned to him at 10:30AM, he was sleeping inside his hiding box!
