They did figure out that it's actually the normal offspring of the platty daddy that passes along the platty gene not the lessers.

Thats different?..so only the normal looking offspring from the orininal platty daddy carrie the platty daddy gene or can any normal offspring from the lessers carry the daddy gene?
If you breed an actual Platty Daddy to a Normal half the babies will be lessers and half with be normal looking snakes that are carrying the gene for "the daddy". You can NOT get snakes with "the Daddy" gene from breeding a "regular" Lesser to a Normal. So to make a Platty Daddy you have to breed a Lesser to a "daddy gene carrier".

Ralph has produced several 'Daddy Platties' over the last couple of years and it was Ralph who figured out that a normal 'Daddy Platty' sib was the carrier of the 'Daddy Platty' gene.
Here's my version of the explanation:
There are three gene versions:
1. normal
2. lesser
3. slight (don't know what Ralph Davis is calling it, so I'll call it "slight" for convenience)
These three genes can make six gene pairs:
1. normal and normal = looks normal
2. normal and lesser = lesser platinum
3. normal and slight = looks normal
4. lesser and lesser = blue-eyed leucistic
5. lesser and slight = platinum (platy daddy)
6. slight and slight = ???
Actually there are several more mutant genes in the white snake gene complex. I would expect that pairing a slight with mojave or any of the other mutants in the complex would lighten them up a bit, just like pairing a slight with a lesser platinum makes a platy daddy.
From what have been said.
The platty gene is part of the lesser/butter complex. Meaning, that the platy gene reside at the same location as the lesser, mojave loci on the DNA.
Meaning, it's impossible to have a Platty BEL.
Breading a Platty Daddy to a normal, is the same as breeding BEL to a normal.
50% lesser
50% platty (who have a normal look)
Eventually, we might see a super platty ? Or combos with it, may be a platty mojave, etc...

If you need to breed a "normal carrier" to a lesser to produce a Platty Daddy, then what would happen from breeding two "normal carriers" together?

I'm also unsure of the official name now days but when breeding a Platy X normal the 50% of the babies that aren't lesser I've read called platy sibs or hidden. I think hidden describes them well because apparently not only do the heterozygous hidden with normal look like normal balls it looks like the homozygous hidden's also look normal. RDR did quite a bit of hidden X hidden breedings early on and reported no different looking offspring. Later he bred platy X platy and produced a normal looking baby that would have been a homozygous hidden. If he breeds that normal looking homozygous hidden to a homozygous lesser leucistic he should get 100% platy.
