Star nibbling on bone?

cod6545 Sep 19, 2003 09:27 PM

Hey- I walked out to my Indian Star pen yesterday just to check on them and offer a little cactus. To my surprise, I found my adult male chewing on a bone he must have dug up. I quickly took it from him, but I still have it. Should I give it back to him? Is there a danger of disease? Thanks. Brooks

No, don’t give him back that old dirty one, but definately get him a cuttlebone to chew on. They’re found in the parakeet section of the pet store and are generally less than a dollar. The calcium will do him good, and it’s obviously something that he wants. (Of course maybe the bone that he found had meat on it; maybe he was tasting that.)

Thanks. It certainly didn't have any meat on it. I've dug up a bunch more. I'm thinking they're either sea- turtle or human. I'll let you know what I find. Thanks! Brooks
