during the summmer the room temperature in my house rises to about 85. would i need to cool the screen cage? if i do, how? any ideas?
What kind of Chameleon do you have in it? I would think that a veiled would do ok in that temperature, but probably any other chameleon would find that too warm. I've had panthers get up to that for a short time, but for the most part, a veiled would be ok. If you ran a fan in the room to get a little more circulation and mist them an extra time or two a day they should be ok. Also, instead of whatever heat light you would usually use, go down to a smaller size, keeping the "hot spot" (for a veiled) around 95-100 and not more than that. I would use a 50W bulb in a room that warm, kept right on top of the screen. Make sure they're able to get out of the hot spot to a cooler part of the cage. I think an ideal room temperature is around 78-80 (for veileds and panthers), so going up to 85 won't hurt.
