I want to know some more info about these. How do you know what size of emitter to get? The cage i will be building is 72"x24"x24"? Also do you need to put anything under the emitter like a rock for the snake to lay on for the help of digestion? Also if there is anything thing else you think i should know please feel free to add. Oh btw this cage will be for a Red tail boa.

I bought 5 RHPs (Radiant Heat Panels) from Pro-Products. I was hesitant at first because of their price tags. I had a few e-mail exchanges and a couple of phone calls with Bob Pound there and I can only describe my experience with this company in one word: AMAZING !

Any and every question I had was answered to the fullest. I was asked about my setup, even to the detail as to which cage would be stacked on which other cage and was given a recommendation as to the wattage/size of the RHPs that I should get. I followed their recommendation and let me tell you one thing without any hesitation; it was the best buy I ever made. Since then, I have never ever had any trouble keeping temps at exactly the setting I have on the thermostat, regardless of the ambient temperature. I say regardless but of course the ambient temps are within normal human livable limits but they are not at a constant temperature; they fluctuate according to the temps outside and the time of day whether I am home or not. I don't need to heat/cool the room my snakes are in.

And in terms of power consumption? Much less that what you'd think. If your setup is correct such as I believe mine is (I have Animal Plastic T-10s and a Herpstat Pro thermostat) then the power usage is very very little. My thermostat is a proportional thermostat which shows how much power it is using at any time and 98% of the time it shows 10%. That means that my 40-50 Watt RHPs use up 4-5 Watts of power each. Now compare that to any other heat source that can actually heat a big cage with ease. It doesn't even come close.

The RHP does not burn when touched so there is no danger of your snake getting burned if they decide to get close to the heat source. I don't have anything specific under the RHP in the cage. In the case I just have the substrate and a couple of decor along with the hide and water bowl.
