Ovulation or Gravid?

bluediamondjason Jan 31, 2010 10:42 AM

There is something definitely going on with my female. I am not sure if this is her ovualation or if she is very gravid. Third week of December I fed her a rabbit on a Sunday and I rememeber looking at her the following friday and thinking OMG she looks huge and that rabbit didn't sit well with her as she was swollen for about 2 ft a lot like the pics below....... I waited a couple weeks for a healthy bowel movement and she eventually passed just urates.......

By mid Jan she was still looking like she had consumed a sizeable meal but I was worried she could be getting hungry. I didnt want to give her a big meal so I offered her a large rat and for the first time ever she didnt strike instantly, she carefully smelled of the rat a bit but was very calm.....I laid the rat down beside her and she very gently ate it..... So that was a total 180 in feeding behavior for her. Another person said she may not be used to eating rats but actually sometimes if she gets a really small rabbit I often give her a big rat to go with it.

She is basking a lot and will stay under the heat 15 hrs of the day or more....Last night I went and looked at her and snapped some pics. Her shape has went from a cushion squarish shape to completely oval. She is very obviously swollen.

She is still with the male who is 1 ft longer than she is.

here are some pics, tell me what you think.....
Thanks
Jason

If this is the ovulation swell, it will not be permanent and will fade in a couple of days. Hard to say from the photos, but you will also know if this is an ovulation because she will shed 20 to 25 days later.
