Hey! I've a ? about thermostats

shadylady Jan 31, 2010 12:55 PM

I'm asking ya'll on this forum because you are really helpful, even tho you argue a lot! LOL!

I've finally decided to use a thermostat and heat tape I bought several years ago.

I'm stacking heavy duty 29 gal aquariums on their sides. I have rigged front 'doors' using screen and heavy duty velcro.

I want to put heat tape on the bottoms and hopefully a 20 gal on top. My thermostat has room for three plugs.

My question is how should I plug in the fourth heat tape? Can I use an extension cord, or how?

Thanks!

You can use a surge protector and plug your 4 heat tapes into that and then plug that into your thermostat. just make sure your not going over your maximum wattage usage for that thermastat. with only four i doubt you will. or if you dont have an extra surge protector you can buy a multi outlet or sometimes called a 3 to 1 outlet, usually has space for 3 outlets to be plugged in one single socket. theyre usually under a buck at wal mart or any hard ware store.

Oh, that's very cool! I just happen to have an unused surge protector. Thanks so much.
