Hognose and Sand?

H_nasicus Jan 31, 2010 09:18 PM

So I just finishd setting up my new enclosure for my hognose.

and so far, I've only noticed one issue. The 'substrate' in the enclosure is loose sand. My hoggy likes to attempt to burrow in it. However, it does not hold his tunnels like the aspen shavings did. Should I be concerned about him suffocating?

I know he -should- be bright enough to come out of the sand if he can't breathe...but I worry..

He does have a tunnel that I made him (out of PVC and burried in his tank) but he doesn't seem to be wanting to use it...

I have never used sand for snakes, but a local pet store here uses sand for most of their snakes, even their hogs, & it seems like they are doing just fine.
