That Speckled finally shed

lytlesnake Feb 01, 2010 12:08 AM

The Holbrooki male that was out in the wild for several weeks and appeared to have been attacked by an animal finally shed. His scales look and feel much better now. There's no scales on one little patch, just leather underneath. Put it's a pretty small area. He's doing great!

I've now moved all the sub adults out of the V35 rack into one with 1754 tubs and less air gap. I had another escapee for two days last week, a hypo pueblan. It was that same horrible feeling all over again, but I got lucky and found him before he got out of the house. The V35 rack is made for baby ball pythons I guess, not smaller kings or milks. I've got everything tight now!

Well he's a captive born king who was never supposed to be in the wild, but I added a new rack a while back and have had a few escapees. As a matter of fact, now I'm missing a splendida, but there's no way she crawled out through any air gap, she's too big. I think I left her tub open, thinking it was empty. So now I'm searching for that one. Just when I thought I had it all tightened up, another mishap. Ugh.

I've been tearing the house apart (again) looking for my vivid line splendida. I just now found her in a walk-in closet in my living room. It must have been the 15 or 20th time I've looked in there. She was kinda hanging out on a Fender guitar amp. She's secure in a tub now.

No more escapees and I mean it this time! I'll have to institute a new rule that I can only work on one snake or gecko at a time when cleaning tubs, etc... All this rearranging of my setup has led to a few mishaps, but I keep getting lucky and finding them. They're all secure now, this will not happen again. Phew!
