Rewiring a Ranco ETC thermostat?

drasticplastic Feb 01, 2010 11:11 PM

I have a Ranco ETC thermostat that I picked up from Jeff, and I'm wondering how hard it would be (if at all) to rewire it. The power strip that comes with it only has 6 plugs, I need 7 available. I have an extra power cord that has 7 plugs, but I haven't had time to pop open the thermostat to see how hard it would be. Plus I want to get feedback from others who are probably more mechanically inclined that I am. Thanks in advance.

The reason I want 7 plugs. I have a 5 cage stack of the 421D's running off the one thermostat right now. I just recently purchased a 2x2 fat staxx as the pedestal and wanted to run everything off one thermostat. Do you guys think that is an ok idea or should the fat staxx stay on it's own thermostat?

I would only run the same size heat tape off 1 thermostat.

Example: You shouldn't run 3" and 11" flexwatt off the same thermostat but you can run multiple pieces of 11" flexwatt as long as it's all the same length.

Hope this makes sense and helps.

There should be only 3 wires inside running to the strip. They are color coded so it is pretty fool proof. You need a seperate thermostat for the fat stax. I have the same setup and will be getting a thermostat this weekend for the fatt stax.

You should only run cages that are the same size , and only the same size heat sources from the same Thermostat . Anything different , needs a seperate thermostat .

But , if you were wanting to run say 10 , 15 cages (of the same size and set-up) off of one thermostat , you simply plug a power strip into the other power strip on the thermostat - no rewiring needed.

Thanks everyone for the replies. It didn't cross my mind about the different sized heat pads being on the same thermostat. I have three of the Ranco ETC's so I can run everything the way it's supposed to be. Thanks again.

Darren.
