I've finally decided to get a new camera. Pretty much decided on the 5700. They offer some pretty sweet package deals on E-Bay, but I'm leary of them. Any suggestions?

I ended up purchasing my camera on Ebay a couple of weeks ago because the company I originally ordered from went out of stock AFTER they told me it was in stock. So, I told them where to go and how to get there (btw, they raised their price about $75 when they went out of stock and I think they were just wanting people to cancel orders so they could sell out their remaining stock at a higher price because ALL online retailers were raising their prices on them). Anyway, I ended up bidding on one on ebay in which the seller had great feedback from a good number of people and everything went smooth as silk. Be leary of the "packages" because most of them are crap. Also, the "suggested retail prices" that they put on the extras in the ads... YEAH, RIGHT!!! Of all the accessories I purchased for my camera and the camera itself, I paid about $625 and if they had all been in an ad, they would have said suggested retail over $1000...
Anyway, as far as filters go... I'm using a UV filter all the time as well as a circular polarizer sometimes and a neutral density filter sometimes. I'm loving the macro filters I ordered and when I get the hang of them... LOOK OUT! I purchased a mini-tripod that I HIGHLY recommend. It was $5 and it allows you to get very close with macro shots and be steady.
Get an extra memory card that is up around at least 128mb or 256mb, just depending on how full you want your card to get/how many pics you want to take at once. I found a great deal and got a quality name brand memory card rated at 30x speed (vs std 12x) and 256mb for about $70 (coolpix 4500 by the way, so that card would work in your camera, i think).

Anyway, just a little to think about. Ebay's a good place to go, but be leary of the packages and check out the individual pieces online before believing the "retail" price on them (checking to see if you're really getting a deal or not) and also check out the feedback. Should be a good experience!
Later Lee!

I hear you with the extras. Their retail prices were a joke. There are a few packages that seem to be pretty good deals though.

I think Ritz Camera is one of the best places to buy anything related to photography... it may not be the best price but you can be sure these guys can answer any questions you may have and will guarentee anything you purchase from them. The dowside to online auctions is what you get is...what you get.. and no support after the fact. I also like digital direct...
