Just a little update on my new female gopher that was given to me recently.I posted on here right after I got her and was commenting on how nice and laid back she is,well,I'm not sure what I did but,I got to witness her other side last night!Took her out for a few pics and she did just fine but, when I put her back she started hissing and striking wildly!lol! Pretty cool!! Jeff

Maybe she thought she was going to get something to eat, and was angry when she got put back with no food treat.

Could be,she ate immediately after her little hissy fit!I handed the pinkie rat to her on tongs and the change was instant!lol! Jeff

I totally can relate to how she must have felt. I have been known to have my own version of a hissy fit when I go to a restaurant and they take God and Forever to bring the food!

nice pics, she looks like she's a nice one at least once into the hand.

^yeah I agree she was just pissed at you for getting no treat!

I have often found that many of my pits feel like their cages are their turf and they will defend them, but when they are taken out of them, they understand that they are not on their turf and have no reason to act defensive, and thus are nice. Yet when I put them back, they know they are home again and now see me as a threat to them, when a few seconds ago I was just a warm tree branch or a "non threat". Then again a few act like I am a threat no matter where they are...

I agree that a snake's mind will tend to snap back to a different mentality the second they're back in their cage. However, for better or worse, I've yet to hear a single hiss despite owning two bulls!

Thats because you dont have enough pits... but not to worry you will, you will. I started out with just one Bull and now I have 7 bulls, 1 pr n pines, 1 s pine 1pr of LA pines and 1pr of Sonoran gophers... I hear plenty of hissin- from some thats why one of the bulls is named B_ _c_y and one is named Ba_ _erd. gotta luv em though!!!!

Lol! That's funny! and you are right I don't have enough of them! She did eat immediately after the "show" by the way! Jeff

I have 11 pituophis ranging in age from early 08 to late 09. The little babies tend to be the hissiest; one little girl put on quite a demonstration which I posted in a thread recently. She is calming down with handling, although today her brother did the air inflation hose routine in my hand. He is going to go blue I think and resented being disturbed on feeding day.
