Hi All...

Looks like a Hypo Florida X Eastern king.

DMong Feb 04, 2010 01:45 PM

Yeah, that's basically what it looks like to me too. The cross-bars and overall pattern look a bit odd to be truly 100 percent floridana to me however.

Very tough to tell certain odd-occurring anomalies from some man-made crosses anymore, as the pecentages of these mixtures are many times very tough to put your finger on.

Hi there,

I will try to take another pic of him soon, The reason he looks skinny is he has been AWOL in the house since the end of Sept, and I just found him in my basement, am sure he had not eaten the whole time as we do not have mice, but he had access to water as we have had a couple small floods.... (UGH). I immediately brought him up to his enclosure, got it heated and let him warm up a few hours then offered him a fuzzy... it took him almost an hour to get it in ... I felt so bad for him, it looked like alot of work... but he has had a few days to digest and is almost back to himself, he was striking and musking the first couple times I took him out. Now he is just soaking in his water dish ( is it normal for them to stay in water for 5-6 hours??)
Thanks again for your time!

Snakes often sit in their bowls,....sometimes it is because conditions(temps) are not optimum, and are too warm, other times it can be from acquiring mite infestations, too low a humidity, etc..., it really can depend on many things at any given time and circumstance.

If your temps are in the high 80's or so on ONE SIDE ONLY! of it's enclosure, and the other side is in the mid 70's(pretty optimum for self-thermoregulation), I simply suspect it is just trying to re-hydrate itself after being gone for so long in the much drier winter environment.

Yes, definitely on the thin side for sure, but I can certainly understand why depending on how long it has been gone. Good luck getting it back up to snuff!

Hi there
Thanks alot.. for all your help people! I have uploaded a couple pictures of Arthur, without flash but had trouble resizing the better ones so using the not so good ones, I could crop enough to be small enough to fit in here!

Wow! I was just looking on your website, those are some beautiful snakes!! I would like to get a few more, however with over 100 parrots etc, I have my hands full right now!!

This pic is gorgeous, the colouring is fantastic~! I hope you kept her/him!! I know the only way to sex accurately is done by a vet but are there behaviour/ physical traits that could indicate possible male or female?? I am agreeing, Arthur looks most like the morph you have shown me... Will his colour deepen , or intensify with age or is this pretty much his adult colouring? I forget how old the auctioneer said the snake is, but guessing a couple months when I got him in Aug..

DMong Feb 05, 2010 12:45 AM

Most are hatched in July through late September, so it is only a few months old now. It will loose all the red it now has, and will turn into light yellows. It will also lighten up a bunch from developing much more interband speckling as well on many of the scales that are dark now. The overall look of the snake will be much yellower, and lighter, with much more speckling than it has now. You will notice a MAJOR change as it matures, trust me on this one

enjoy!, ~Doug

Can you get a still pic of the top of the head of that snake and a whole body shot from the top.

I am thinking this may be something else besides a hypo or a hypo x eastern. But i don't know until i see better pics.
