Prohibited Zonata...

mckenzieriverrep Feb 03, 2010 03:15 PM

The only two that are prohibited claims this site* are the Parvirubra and the Pulchra, excluding Cali residents of course. Does someone know the laws regarding Zonata?

I know they are illegal, but maybe someday the Todos Santos Island Z's will be in captivity.

Damn Luc, making me work today arent you. LOL. As far as parvirubra are concerned, California TRIED to include them along wiht pulchra back in the early 90's, but it didnt happen. Thank God.

Pulchra generally cna not be touched, PERIOD. No collecting, no ownership in their native state, NADA. Other "ssp" forms (as you're aware, currently there are no ssp recognition for zonata other than herrerae....they are now referred to as Northern and Southern Clades......you can also peruse the "Zonata Past and Present" section of my site which details this stuff...) are allowed one per California resident for collection and possession with a legitimate fishing license. There is also, for Ca. residents, a commercial breeding permit that allows up to 30 zonata to be kept. Anyone interested in applying who are reading this from California can contact me to find out how to apply. It's not that difficult.

Hope I was not too vague in my explanation.....

Hey Jerry, I am reading the article/presentation right now. It is fantastic! I am really enjoying it. It is clearing up this mess in my head of locales and laws etc...

I notice you said that you had a Cascade Z in the presentation, is this presentation new? I know that you said you did not have the cascade form until I sold you that pair. Is there someone else that has them? I would love to contact them and see if we could compare notes...

Back to the article...

glad you like it, and that pair is doing phenomenally well. As for the other question, email me....

Selling Z's from the state of Oregon...careful, for you and the buyer!. You could collect them with a permit from the Oregon Dept. of F&W. Selling them though, don't think so.

...just to clarify......parvirubra were being strongly considered back in 1994 as a "species of special concern" due to the geographic location of parvs so near to the foothills of populized areas, thus the coining of the term "urban mountain kingsnake" for San Bernardino parvirubra in particular (as parvs hail from not only the San Berdoos, but also San Jacintos and San Gabriels).....and coupled with the human penchant for reckless abandon when it comes to searching and potential overcollecting, these were nearly lumped in with pulchra.

On another note, baseball season is around the corner!!!!!!

Ahh Baseball fan, eh? We don't really have any baseball teams out here in Oregon, just basketball really. I prefer college football though.

I really want to get my hands on some different zonata ssp. I like the st. Helens...

PM is sent.

If you have a copy of brian Hubs Moutain kingssnake book there is a great chapter on the history and legalities of pulchra.

The whole law there is ridiculous. But Kalifornia is known for things like that.

I saw some Todos Santos Is (zonata herrerae) available before, I think they were on Ric Blair's website, but they are not there now so maybe I am mistaken. I hope some are still floating around from whatever line I saw.
