dang it Randy, just when I'm chewing over the axanthic flavs, you send me for a loop with the leopards. I swear I'll never catch up! Really fine snakes, I may be persuaded to leave the New World yet!

Thanks Todd!
Come on over to the dark side!

looks pretty bright from where I'm sittin'!

Randy, do these have to be cooled colder or longer to breed properly, then, say, subocs? I know it's apples and oranges, but I only have apples, lol! Might be ready for some citrus soon!

I cool mine at the same temps as my subocs and get fertile eggs from them every year. I don't have the best setup for cooling where I live and my cool room gets as warm as the low to mid 60's at times but it doesen't seem to matter. Since I can only get my room that cool, I only cool everything about 2 and a half months total.

that sounds ideal for where I'm at! Since i got subocs last year to breed and hatch, I may be coming on board with a few like these! Thanks Randy.

Awesome little situla man!!
Now if you could just find out which one wrote on the egg there, you could make MILLIONS!

Randy,
Nice!
How hard is it to get hatchlings to eat?
Do they usually take frozen/thawed?
I've been kicking around the idea of getting Leopard Rats for quite some time.
Tim
Tim I've heard of some young being a little tricky as far as feeding but my experience has generally been the opposite. I might have to start 1 out of 10 hatchlings with live for a couple meals before switching over to thawed but most all I've hatched in the last few years start on thawed right out of the egg. I've never had to tease feed or cool one before they would eat on their own. Adults will sometimes skip some meals when fall comes around but that has been about it from my experience.
They are a really interesting species.

Nice snakes Randy. I've got my striped pair cooling right now. They are 07's and this will be my first attempt at breeding them. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I am worried that I haven't been able to keep them cold enough. We've had a pretty cold winter here in Louisiana(as far as La winters go), but the room I keep them in did get above 60 degrees during the day a few times. At night and most days it stays between 50 and 59. Works fine for most North American rats, but I'm afraid I may have to invest in an old refrigerator if I'm not successful this year. What do you think?
