Give me some ideas

mightybd Feb 05, 2010 12:18 AM

Hello.
I have a collection of reptiles.
I am a manager at a sports club and have decided to put on a reptile show for kids. There are a handful of reptile owners all willing to participate.
A few animals will be handled by the kids with close supervision.

I know enough about my animals and reptiles in genral to talk for at least an hour. But...

What I am asking for!

FUN FACTS
Something I may not know, but kids would love to know....
I would love some ideas, even links to a page to read is great.

Thanks!

Well, easier said than done. I'm not sure what you know versus what you do not know. What age are the children you are teaching? If they are under High School age you are going to have a heck of a time keeping their attention for more than the hour you already have knowledge enough for.

Also, "reptiles" is a large, polyphyletic grouping to find fun-facts for. Turtles, crocodiles, snakes/lizards, frogs, salamanders, and tuataras are are pretty separate taxonomic groups. Narrow it down for us and we might be able to help more.

Ah yes sorry, in the bearded dragon section I included the animals I have.
Dragon
Hedgehog
Russian Tortoise
Ball Pythons

At the show with me will be a green Iguana, Dumerils, Corn Snakes, Gekos

The kids are generally like 4-12, fun facts I can use with my knowledge to keep them interested.
So I am not looking for advice on care, but general knowledge about the animals, In bearded dragons, some one recommended their growth rate as something that is interesting.... I know how fast they grow, but would not think of comparing it to human growth so the kids can understand it a little better.
Anything is great!
Thanks
