Is he DEAD???????

Snakey Sep 20, 2003 12:36 AM

Hey all! It has been a little while and I have decided to post my progression on my monitor. Yes, before it started a little BS and words were exchanged that may or not have been beneficial to either party but at this point who cares. Andrew Owen, I think this looks pretty good to be dead or a poster for that matter. My young friend Justin Stricklin, before you start posting things like " We all know what is going to happen and it will probably die anyway" and "Let him say something to me Andrew and I'll shove it right back in his face" you need to look around your own surroundings first. Sometimes youngsters may say things that are interesting but I suggest you get your driver lisense first before you give to much info. I found a bit out about you in general (nothing you didn't give publicly) and you are ONLY 15 yrs old. You haven't even been living on your own, paying your own bills, and on top of that keep pets that you can afford without parental intervention which is in their house, not yours. Have fun with your pets though.

Ok, now with the progress. This is the picture I posted when I first had gotten it from a screwy dealer that commonly posts in the classifieds. I suggest you look deeply into whom you are buying from before you end up in a world of bills and problems. Like I have repeatedly said before, buy captive bred and you'll have a whole lot less headache.

This, once again, is the picture of the monitor when I posted and had problems with parasites. All I wanted to know then was what did you did after worming, what drugs, husbandry during and after if anything different than normal, and when you treated again. Simple. But that is the past and who cares. In the photo he looks very thin and in need of assistance which is why I had known after tests that he was ridden with parasites. Why let him die when you might be able to help. I never tell my motorcycle racing track newbies info that won't help. If they have a question, I answer it to the best of my ability in hopes it'll help them b/c I have a wide knowledge base in the area and a serious love for the sport. Not give useless info to be funny or humorous esp. when I know crutial info that could save their life, motor, or bike in general. Same goes for monitors. If you really really like them then why let one die just to get a laugh?
Look at this sad specimen that I had to work with on my own with the info given from a few helpful individuals. Notice the lack of any sort of fatty deposits on any part of its body. This was 2 wks after I had gotten it.

This is him now. Notice the coloration changes. Sorry for the camera. It is not the best and have to figure it out better with the diff. options to use and when.

Here is a more clear picture....

And the last one for this post....It almost looks like a totally diff. animal but it is the same one. I am not sure if you can tell but look at the notch in its tail half way from whatever happened in its life before getting caught in the wild.

I am trying to understand the purpose of this post.
Are you saying that your purchased this monitor from someone and the monitor was in poor health, and now it is much better?
Or are you trying to prove your "rightness" about some other personal issue?

I am trying to figure out how this is about your monitor, or am I missing a previous conversation?

I am 100% with u Kit, i have not a clue what is going on. This post seemed to be a waste of time

"""I am 100% with u Kit, i have not a clue what is going on. This post seemed to be a waste of time"""

No, not a waste of time. I am not going to get into everything that caused the "bickering" b/t some of the members here so I am going to just say, yeah, your way too late. You must be new or haven't checked the boards for some time until now or ?

Can't explain why you didn't see it then but what's done is done and this was meant for those who were involved with the post at that time.

His computer is down. So I'll have to say something.

First whomever told you Andrew was 15 haha, well they're wrong. I know the man, I've actually ridden in his vehicle. Hmm theres a license. He lives on his own and even hired me to work on his webpage.

http://www.varanuscreations.com/

He actually sponsers the forums if you look around.

Good luck with your critter, he looks good. I'm not standing up for any convo's you've had with him, but I do have to straighten out what I see as wrong.

Your critter does look much better, good luck with it!

I never said Andrew was a kid. I meant Justin. I know Andrew is an adult as our lengthy conversation before about college and him helping his mom and bro out etc. Yeah, Oscar, I am totally with you that he is not a kid. Justing is. I put qoutes implying what Justing had said, that's all. No prob though. Not really a big deal.

Here is my post qoute"

Hello,

Interesting post. V. albigularis do go through seasonal brumation (=hibernation in summer, vrs hibernation in winter like bears and squirrels do). Their physiologies are designed to go through a fattening up, thinning down cycle annually. However, it looks like this is this young ones first cycle and that is always the harshest to endure/survive...I am not saying this specimen was going through his brumation, only that if he was, it was a harsh one...and his survival is totally dependant on how much fat bodies organs have stored up reserves during the year will determine their survival during these 3-4 months when they don't eat much at all, drink some, and in adults, seek out mates for reproduction; V. exanthematicus and V. griseus also do this - V. niloticus only does this when drought conditions prevail and it must do this, like its nemesis the crocodiles of same rivers, streams, and lakes...

good luck Justin,
mbayless

Snakey Sep 20, 2003 03:36 AM

It just could have been contributed to the brumation. I guess we really can't say. At least he's(I have seen him evert) over it now and has increased size from the very beginning. When I first got him he was like walking death. Well, your information, as usual, is most interesting to say the least.

p.s.(my name isn't Justin but I know you meant my name though as you know it already)

Take it easy.

Thanks

Both Brumation and hibernation, are physical behaviors induced by unsuitable weather conditions. They do these behaviors to endure adverse enviornmental conditions. They do not do these as a matter of habit or calender. They do these to excape extreme weather conditions that will not allow them to maintain proper, temps, energy or moisture.(three most common, but by no means all the conditions)

The lenght of these is directly determined by the conditions, that individual year or season. On some years it may not exsist, while other years, its extended.

Both brumation and hibernation are not reproductive behaviors, they are behaviors to allow the individuals to conserve energy and moisture. While the conservation of energy protects the ability to reproduce, it does not contribute to it directly. The energy must be there to start with.(prebrumation or prehibernation)

If you do not believe this, then please copy this and send it to 10 biologist(herpetologist) and have them explain it to you.

What happened to this fellas Albig, most likely may be, it was effected by the ordeals of collection, exportation, importation, and the related influences of poor husbandry. But because there is no history of what actually happened to it, there is no way of knowing. F
