You know there have been movies like this about every single administration since the video camera was invented. They all make valid points but rarely avoid jumping to wild conclusions. Regardless of what side of the aisle you find yourself standing on, we don't need this type of partisan division in the community right now. We need to set aside personal politics because we all have one thing in common; we love our boas and are willing to stand up to anyone who would try and take them from us. If we end up arguing amongst ourselves about who voted for who and who likes the donkey or the elephant then we are basically a lost cause. HSUS and Bill Nelson etc. are the only winners if we decide to spend the next few months tearing eachother down based on who likes what flavor of bullsh*t instead of working together to stop this vile legislation from passing. Let's stay fucused here guys, we need ALL the numbers we can gather for our campaign to keep our beloved animals right now and anyone and everyone on this forum is a brother or sister in that cause!

Peace,

Uriah

sorry, I disagree with that. I have been trying to shut my mouth with this thing but its very hard for to do so lately. I dont know, maybe its because everyone has been posting up the responses they received from their Senators. Did anyone really expect anything else? Really? Maybe this is the first time you've written a letter or tried to get in touch with your local representative and your feelings are hurt. This mess we are in was sponsored by and is raging forward because of DEMOCRATS. Pure and simple. Thats a fact. Anyone who knows anything(not what he or she sees on TV) about politics knows that this is CLASSIC liberal behavior. For me, its all about what side of the aisle we're on. I can't understand why more people don't want to admit this. Thanks for the vent. Best of luck in your breeding season

I was wondering if anyone else has written to Glenn Beck or the likes to try and get some truth uncovered on our fight. I know people have tried to get Jon Stewert and Stephen Colbeirt to do a segment on it but Comedy Central will only get us so far. If you notice it seems to be Dems are the majority who have their hand in the HSUS cookie jar. Just my 2 cents on it.

mike_panic Feb 09, 2010 08:05 AM

thats not just two cents my friend thats the truth and nothing but the truth. Its something many people(at least in here)seems to deny or rationalize. I guess because I'm from such a disgusting liberal state where the Governor wants to tax non diet sodas and the mayor of New York City wants table salt removed from tables, is the reason I see this bill for what it really is. Take care. Mike Panichi

I've emailed Glenn Beck at least 3 times regarding this issue. I explained the situation in detail. But so far no response, which is disappointing, since the gov't corruption and junk science is right up his alley. This is just my speculation, but assuming he even read my e-mails, I doubt he will cover the story. Keep in mind Bill O'Reilly, for whatever reason, becomes an idiot when discussing pythons, and has run some very negative stories about pythons. I can't imagine Fox News would air a show that makes O'Reilly look stupid. Again, just my speculation...

thank you.

This type of stuff only serves to drive us apart when we should be united, regardless of political leanings.

I thought I was coming here to talk boas?

Makes me not want to come here at all

April, I have known you for a long time, from as far back as when we were both Cornsnake nuts. You should know that when I post up a response like the one I posted above, its not to offend anyone. I want to talk snakes more than anyone believe me, but to close your eyes and click your heels wishing this would all go away, isnt going to help anything. The reason everything seems geared towards politics is because this jam we are all in is PURELY politics and has EVERYTHING to do with party lines. Anyone who doesn't really believe that(not because of what I say but based on facts that are available to us all) is kidding themselves. Just by seeing everyones disappointment in their senators response tells me that MOST LIKELY, its the first time they have tried to contact their elected representative. In my mind, if it is the first time they have tried to contact their representative, MOST LIKELY they, like most Americans, never really pay attention to politics and probably only vote in major elections(if that). What does all this have to do with snakes? FOR THE MOST PART, politicians care about one thing and one thing only, losing their power. They could care less about snakes, they could care less about science and most of them could care less about Florida. Its all about more government. Again, classic liberal behavior. Now I'm not saying you should turn around and convert to a republican. Thats your choice as an American as it is mine. I am saying that LETS NOT CANDY COAT THIS THING ANYMORE. IT IS WHAT IT IS. I am simply trying to spread the TRUTH. This proposed bill was created by democrats and is being forwarded by mostly democrats. So the remedey is as simple as this, vote your local democrat out of office and bills like this will MOST LIKELY never pop up again. Is it too late for this bill you ask? Probably. But as USARK has stated, this is only the beginning. One last thing, when this thing got rolling, USARK came out and publically stated (I think its almost a quote) pure and simple, the democrats are against us and the republicans are with us. For me, there is nothing else to hear. Thanks for your ear.

This is exactly what I'm talking about, people feel alienated when we get into broad political statements and finger pointing. Yes, we could easily point the finger at Democrats because Bill Nelson is a Democrat and other democrats will side with him because they belong to the same party. We all know that this is a Florida issue and Florida's politicians may have an alterior motive (trying to get more federal funding by blowing the Everglades python issue out of proportion). It could just as easily be a republican in power right now doing the same thing. Let's not forget about the anti-herping legislation that was passed in Texas a couple years back that was pushed through by Republicans, while it was a Democrat that tried to get reptiles taken off the bill:

http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Issue/story?oid=oid:507501

Both political parties are constantly letting us down because they act for their own interests, so for the sake of argument and in the name of our own interests, let's think of this as an independent forum.

We all have ONE thing in common here, we like our boas. Our country is divided along party lines based on their own beliefs and interests, and there is a lifetime of history that goes into shaping an individuals beliefs. Nobody should expect to be able to change another persons core values and beliefs with a forum post. We should understand it doesn't work that way. What we CAN do is try to keep a sense of community going here by not alienating anyone based on their outside beliefs. If you think about it everyone has their own reason for identifying with a particular political party. Most often a person agrees with democratic policies on some issues and republicans on others. Sometimes there is one issue (religion, abortion, guns, environment etc.) that pushes a person to choose one side over the other. If we were to lay all these issues out on the table and argue about them here on Kingsnake.com we will end up with very few people who agree on everything. Basically we will find out that we are individuals, and we will feel alot more like individuals than a group at that point and it will be hard to move forward as a group. So how about we just skip all that and acknowledge that we are individuals who have a common interest and call that good enough. For the sake of getting anything done right now let's just pretend that the only thing that matters is that we agree on this one issue. Our boas and pythons are independent minded and we should join them, we could call ourselves "The legless party", "Republiconstrictors" or "Boacrats", or perhaps something even more ridiculous sounding. We'll be much more effective if we can set aside our differences and direct our collective energy at the people trying to take away our snakes.
United we stand, divided we fall.

Peace,

Uriah

Thanks Mike and April, I just don't want to see things spiral out of control here. One common tactic used to shut down a movement is to send in an "agent provocateur" to get the group pitted against one another and let it fall apart from the inside. Putting up conspiracy videos and mud slinging over what political party people identify with is EXACTLY what our opposition wants to see us do.

I have mainly been watching this forum lately because I am concerned about this whole s373/Lacey Act issue and I want to keep up with actions I can participate in and news on the matter. I have noticed you both post regularly and your voices are important to this forum so I especially appreciate your consideration on this.

Peace,

Uriah

Hey Mike,

I wasn't offended and I do understand what you are saying. Just the general statements along the lines of don't vote democrat because they back this "fill in the blank" bill are a turn off to me. I am not a democrat or a republican but I lean more towards the left. Neither party is perfect or has all the answers, I guess I hope that no matter what party the senator or representative is from, they will still listen to what the majority of their people want and hopefully listen to a little logic as well (maybe I have rose colored glasses on).

Regardless, it's all about the boas and that's what I want to get back to

>>I have known you for a long time, from as far back as when we were both Cornsnake nuts.

I still have a few corn snakes, just couldn't let them all go. hee
Have a good one,

but it probably belongs on a different forum though. Perhaps a link or something so folks can follow it without the topic cluttering the boa forum would be cool.
