I hear ya Joe! The winter time doldrums are getting to me here in South Louisiana as well. Holding out and hopefully the weather will start turning in another couple of weeks. Getting itchy to go herping!!
amen. we had a nice stretch here for a bit, and I was hoping the amphibians would start getting out...but it's snowed 2-3 times in the last 10 days, and been staying fairly chilly (into the 20s and teens at night).
that is an awesome toad! Colorado river toad? Freaking huge.
Yeah, I had never seen one before and was actually afraid to grab that thing!! I did not hesitate to grab many mohave and western diamondback rattlesnakes but I was scared of that toad. LOL.
I used to see those toads all the time when I was a pool guy working in Scottsdale. I'd always find them laying strings of eggs on the bottom of this pool by Camelback Mountain. So I'd catch them with my net and drop them as far from the pool as possible. They always found it again though, I believe we were in a drought so it was the closest water. Eventually I would find them dead from the pool chemicals. It was a damn shame.
