Vanilla Ball Python?

kevinvs Feb 07, 2010 12:17 AM

I purchased a snake from a friend about a year ago of unknown genetics, and just now I was looking at pictures of snakes and stumbled onto Vanilla Ball Pythons. I noticed a peculiar resemblence between my snake and all the pictures displaying Vanilla ball pythons. In particular, her head pattern (three circles, resembles mickey mouse), light complexion and banded sides. I will post a picture of her and maybe I can get some professional assistance on whether or not she may be a Vanilla. Thanks for your time!

These subtle morphs always throw me..as this vanilla ball doesn't look any different to me than a nice looking normal. There seems to be a bit of a haze but I think that is just the picture itself, as the entire picture looks a little hazy.

Anybody feel up to posting a pic of a vanilla ball next to a typical normal?

Here's your picture:

She looks like a normal to me but I'm no vanilla expert.

Yes, she does look very deflated but I can assure you that it is not due to being underfed or malnourished. She is probably the second best eater out of all my snakes, she is just a very flat snake for some reason. I do think that she was underfed before I obtained her though, maybe this is a reason for her flat body type (granted she is only flat like this when she wants to be).

could also be due to her being on a rug... I am sure she will fill out under your care

The problem with Vanillas is they look SO much like normals. They are obviously a proven morph, with a good looking Super, but I would not go breeding a male Vanilla to 4 normal females in hopes of producing a ton of Vanillas. They just are not that attractive as single morphs, and way to hard to tell from normals sometimes.

In their defence, my Pastel Vanilla female is 2 years old and still looks great. Very bright, way, way nicer than my similar aged Pastel YB male. I also really like the Vanilla Fire, so much so, that I have decided to breed my Sulfur Mojave male to my Pastel Vanilla female.

To sum up my review of the Vanilla morph, lousy stand alone Ball morph, but nice cross animal with an above average Super...."and it ain't another white snake!"
