First Hognose Tri-Colored Question?

mossman Sep 20, 2003 02:35 AM

I am getting a pair of tri colored hogs from a breeder freind of mine in a couple of weeks. I was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a good care sheet or would like to share some info about them? I am planning on keeping them in the same rack as my kings and corns and was wondering if that would be OK. I keep them on newspaper substrate and the temps. are in the mid. to low 70's and the humidity isn't really that high even though I'm in Florida.

Also, when do they breed? Do they double clutch or triple clutch? How long and at what temp. do the eggs need to incubate? Are the neonates easy to get feeding? This will be my first time working w/ hognose snakes and any help would be great. Thanks

keeping them in the same rack is ok. I keep mine on pine or aspen shavings becuase they like to hide under it. temps are ok in the 74 to 82 range. I give them a little more humidity when they are about to shed. I cool mine down in the 60s the same as my kings or corns and they breed right after you warm them up. they will lay eggs about every 30 days or until you stop them ! mine layed aout 5 clutches and two of those were after I had kept the male from her . the eggs take about 75 days to hatch at 78 to 80 degrees. and so far all of my babys have eaten f/t pinkies a day or two after there first shed. so far these have been my easyest snakes to breed!! good luck !
