Able to handle?

Tempo Feb 08, 2010 05:29 PM

I'm not new to snakes or reptiles.

However, I've only ever handled the smaller ball python, corn snake, and Kenyan sand boa. I'm considering finding an albino red tail boa.

But I'm only 5'3 and 120lbs. Could I handle a snake that can get 8ft and 30lbs ?

Because the males are smaller, I'd probably go for that.

I am a 5 foot 6 inch female and I have no problems at all handling any and all of my boas. I love my boas and You would love one too. I think they are the most personable and best snake pet.

I am 5'2.5" and I can handle our 7 foot Boa. I don't think I'd handle her without someone at home, though, just in case.

Im 6'3 250lbs and truthfully, there have been times where I had trouble moving my 8 foot 30 pounder. Even some of the solid seven footers can be challenging at times. If size is a consideration, stick with a male if you can. Some Central Americans stay smaller or even an arabasque. Best of luck. Mike Panichi

If you're only looking for a pet, a male should be a perfect match for you.

Welcome to the wonderful world of boas!

I'm 5'5" and my largest boa is just over 8'. I am able to handle her but she is a HANDFUL! Now that I am single, I don't have those extra pair of hands to help... (I like to have someone in the house when I take out the 6'plus boas, just in case! As I've been bitten and wrapped by one of the 7footers and it was a tad unnerving being alone). I don't plan to ever get any species bigger than the boas I have now for that reason.

I would highly suggest a male and preferable one of the smaller localities, look for central american boas, hog isle boas and other small insular species of BCi.

Good luck!
