san diego gopher

seanmm1971 Feb 08, 2010 11:17 PM

I recently added a san diego gopher to my collection, bought him/her at a reptile show in noblesville, in. I wonder if a got an unusual snake or what? It has personality , most of my collection tolerares being held but saying they enjoy it would be a stretch. this gopher snake stands up hisses and rattles its tail to protest being botherd, but as soon as i grab it, it settles rightdown. is this normal behavior for this species?

Perfectly normal for this species. With frequent gentle handling youngsters (the most prone to these displays) will clam down nicely.

My thread about Miss Hissy Spits. I have 11 pituophis and this little girl has had the most attitude but is calming down; didn't even hiss when I picked her up this morning to put her in her feeding jar.

How old is your SD? That sounds perfectly normal. Give the snake time to settle into his/her surroundings. They're sweethearts w/ big appetities and lots of personality.
