Venom in Vegas

NolanNY30 Feb 09, 2010 07:43 PM

This guy on Animal Planet that is spending a couple of days in a room with 50 Snakes all are either non-Venomous or Highly Venomous, this guy is doing this to make awarenarce about Snakes and People can get along if you show respect to them and live out your day without harm.
And anybody who watched this I was woundering where the snakes water was and this guy is wouring about the humidity level, I quite sure that the heat and water is way more important than the humidity, just felt like I had to say that, lol.

My Mistake Way More than 50 actually close to 100

Slacker6848 Feb 09, 2010 08:38 PM

I herd about it, I think it's completely ridiculous, putting many animals from different parts of the world and need different husbandry all shoved into a small room where it is highly likely to kill each other since they're not immune to all the others venom. REAL PROFESSIONAL.
just my 2 cents

He is sensationalizing exactly the kind of anti snake sentiment that will kill our industry. He felt compelled to show an anaconda violently attacking a very real looking hollywood prop human hand.

I watched the entire show. The guy is a total jackass. Sensationalism at its finest.

Idiots like this... that take that many chnaces don't usually survive very long...... I really feel bad for the snakes.... think of how stressful that must have been for them

... our energy would be better directed at the fed law makers right now? Networks just care about if you watched or not, and you did, so did I
I'm a tattoo artist, not a single show in the last 5 years has gotten my industry right, nor will they ever, that is the nature of tv...

You guys can jump on me if you want, probably will seeing how that's the trend, but I stand behind what this guy was trying to prove. Snakes are not mindless killers, they each and everyone have their own personality, and are not out to kill and eat you just cause your there, like most of the general public think!
It may not have been presented in the best manner but at least it was ment to be positive, unlike ALL of the other snake shows on TV right now, think about it...

See the thing is to keep a snake happy and thriving the temp has to be 85F and the humidity has to be 65% and snakes can live in this range for years without any problems and it was only 10 days for this stunt and I thought this stunt was good and very productive and thrying to get through peoples minds that snakes are not killing machines and don't want to hurt humans unless you mess with them. Snakes from different areas around the world can get along with one another and they feed them all before the black mambas came into the situation so no harm will happen and the temp was probelly droped so the snakes will be more calm and won't bother each other. But that proved that snakes and humans can live next to each other without any problems but some snakes people really have to think twice about before buying and keeping them like rock pythons, burmese pythons and reticulated pythons witch has a mind of their own and way to large to handle and will never become tame but if you think you can and have more than one person to help you and you cage them correctly than go for it but never let your guard down not even for one second. Thanks

Nolan

I have to agree with you. Besides doing youtube videos in support of stopping s373 I also see comments saying false things about him that stem from misunderstanding the situation. Such as when he was looking in the trees while searching for Gaboons. He said he was keeping an eye out for Green Mambas, not looking for Gaboons in trees. Most of us know the samples he collects may not be used themselves but how many viewers (outside the herp crowd) would watch an hour of milking snakes in a sterile lab. His show is by no means on the level of Python Wars or Monsterquest crap. He's somewhat following in Steve Erwins footsteps but with some differing side objectives. I've noticed the media be it Animal Planet, Natgeo or any other channel will only let a person shed so much light on the story at hand and lumping his shows in with the previously mentioned crap on other channels is condemning our only media outlet we presently have to combat the real sensationalism out there.

KaiYudSai Feb 11, 2010 08:59 PM

I don't know..... I know a few people from South Africa and they say this whole campin in a room with snakes concept is a common gimmic they do there for events... to draw in customer to sales... ... and these things go bad many times... mainly for the snakes..... This is not the sort of methods I will ever endorse..... Besides... there is soo much money in Venom research.... since it's become the new frontier for pharmeceuticals... that the whole argument about them needing money for venom research is pretty much bogus

There is nothing scientific about anything this guy does.... he's like Bear Grylls without an appetite

I agree it could go badly under the wrong supervision. Venom in Vegas was to raise awareness for snakebite victims in third world countries. His website has the link to AVRI (animal venom research institute).
