Nat Geo "Python Wars"

norajohn Feb 11, 2010 09:30 AM

If anyone would like to post a comment to Nat Geo on their hatchet job of a program that aired the other night "Python Wars" here is the link. It's a real let down to see that Nat Geo has succumbed to yellow journalism, and hysterical hype to get viewers to watch their show.
The greatest story of the Burmese in the Everglades would be for a real journalist to find. It would be a story of scientific greed and misrepresentation as well as government overreaction and government agencies seeking to grow their authority. Maybe one day a real journalist will actually try and find the great story that is hidden in all this.

Watched it this morning and was really upset at the picture it painted.. The one girl working for the USGS said "we don't even know if they drink water"! Well why don't you try asking a few of the very experienced keepers if they do!!!! I will tell you college didn't do that girl any good!!!! The whole saltwater test seemed really ridiculous to me, with the level of scientific knowledge we posses today...

It was totally mindless...

The snake getting out of the cage and curling up with the guys little girl... Totally his fault for not securing the animal properly!!!!

One of my intrests on my facebook page is "making fun of snake/reptile shows"! They are always sensationalized like a horror movie.. I guess it's the primate left in some of us...

I saw one shwo the other day where there were guys running around Florida looking for Burms. They found a baby and a severely injured adult. I was DISCUSTED with their treatment of the adult. It had two HUGE skull deep gashed in his head, they said it looked like someone tried to cut his head off with a machette or large knife, but failed to do the job. The snakes skull was broken and was so infected it had maggots inside the wound.

What to these people and the vet do?? They BEND THE WOUND OPEN TO SEE IF THEY CAN SEE IT'S BRAIN!!! What sort of horrible people they are!! How much PAIN and AGONY to you think that poor snake was in. I felt so SO bad for it.

I was absolutley discusted.
