Louisiana Field Herping?

RouxGaRoux Feb 11, 2010 11:22 PM

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good spots to go field herping in Louisiana? I plan on going whenever the temps climb to something more suitable.

Even assuming you have a sincere and benign interest here I really doubt anyone one, IF they knew anything, would offer it, especially in the context of a pit forum...and to any who might know something and would offer it, I and others will beg you not to.

Sorry about that, no reflection on you or your intent and don't mean to be negative, it's just a cold hard world that's all Best of luck in your herping adventures and please, take only pictures.

Sorry... Found this site through the LGCHS site and a friend said I would like this section more so than the rest, thought this would be an appropriate area to ask such a question. I'm local and just want to check out local spots, if there are any. New to this and wanted to start somewhere?

Get a copy of Conant's field guide, study the sections on the herps you're interested in, and go for it! Louisiana has some great herpetofauna, but in fairness, few people are going to tell you where they herp, you have to seek out your own places. Best of luck, it's always good to see someone getting into the field, you learn so much more there than anywhere else!

Certainly no need to be sorry. I'm glad you took my message nicely. There are some very sensitive species there which really need to remain there. Best of luck learning about your area and finding stuff.

I am a member of the LGCHS. Join the society if you live in LA and get to meet some of the folks. There are many who are more field oriented and inclined to associate with like minded individuals. However, as others responding have stated, most folks special places are not readily divulged. Its a trust factor that takes time to develope!!!

I was debating on joining LGCHS when I discovered the site. Since you're a member and whatnot I have soooooooooo many questions to ask but I don't know where to ask them! Lol...Also, I was a little nettled by monklet's initial response, but after skimming through several pages worth of posts/threads I understand, somewhat, why he/she replied in such a manner.

Well the forums are a great place to ask questions. Contacts in the LGCH can also be a great place to ask questions and meet others in your area with similar interests. However, please be aware many questions can be answered on your own quite easily by researching appropriate literature, etc. Thats how the more serious herpers have done it and still do it. Some of the questions asked are so basic that it rattles the nerves of the more experienced herpers. It appears an animal was obtained with out any research whatsoever, and now the person expects all their questions to be answered within minutes on an internet forum. Research first. THEN if you dont understand or are confused, go to the forums, etc. for clarification.

I meant that I had some questions about LGCHS, not wildlife and such. I wouldn't mind picking at a few brains for a bit of info, but I prefer reading/researching on my own ((The stuff seems to stick to the walls of my brain better when I do!))
