diet range of rainbows

billysbrown Sep 20, 2003 09:40 AM

Out of curiosity I just wanted to check on everyone's experience with what you have fed rainbows. Mine do great on mice and rats, of course, but I was wondering about people's experiences with other foods - chicks, other birds, lizards, frogs, bird eggs, etc.

Thanks,
Billy Brown

I have always fed lab rats or mice.
However, a good friend who kept and bred them for many years would also feed chicks from time to time. He stated that they (especially Brazilians) really seemed to prefer them and would have an even greater feeding response (if that is possible)when presented with them. The down side was that the feces folowing such meals would be horrible.
I had a W/C specimen that another friend caught in his henhouse
down in Peru. It had eaten several young birds.
