SNOW IN S. CAROLINA!!!!

joshhutto Feb 12, 2010 04:07 PM

It's snowing in SC right now. It's been awhile since we've had any snow to speak of in the lower part of the state (coastal plain) and right now we have about 1/2" on the ground and expected to keep falling until after midnight. Some experts are saying we will get up to 5"s tonight. I bet the burms in SREL experiment aren't out basking right now, lol.

I just heard on the news that is snowed in 49 of the 50 states today . . . Hawaii was the only state without snow. It even snowed here in Florida. Weird winter!

Josh, I wonder if their still basking in the trees as the NatGeo Special showed them doing? Please include any basking Python pics or perhaps Pythons on Snowboards or other interesting habits the researchers have taught them how to do...If you saw that show [hope you did] you'd understand why I'm being cynical. Perhaps special flexible ski's can be made to allow the snakes to circumvent tree's and other obstructions....LOL

Tom i was hopeful to see a more positive light cast on the subject than previously done by the history channel, but i suppose i was being a bit naive...It was annoying to think that all the animals shown on both programs were currently dead or dying(as here in NC we were treated with 8" worth during that airing by natgeo.)

Josh we got the same last night here in central NC,and i'm betting there is more before this season is over..I've barely begun pairing things here yet..only a few seem interested.

Actually it's quite depressing as my yard used to have thousands of Anoles and House Gecko's and now both are very scarce here. Even the Bufo marinus and Cuban Tree Frogs died en masse. Even our native herps including the American Crocodiles died in big numbers....One huge male first tagged in I believe 1986 perished in the cold and was well in excess of 13' long...

That's sad Tom-it's a real setback to lose so many crocs in one season. Hopefully the ones at Turkey Point no enough to retreat to the hot water.

Wierd, snowing in South Carolina, freezing in Florida, and it's warm here in British Columbia, Canada... no wonder my male Balls are be kind of lazy with the breeding!

RockinReptiles2 Feb 13, 2010 09:06 PM

It was a nice snow here in NC. I think i saw a hybrid python/cobra riding a snowmobile this morning. It should be against the law to air such nonsense. The people who filmed and aired that show should be fired and the "biologist" should go back to school. Heck your local petsmart people know more about snakes than those guys.

Charles either I am early on breeding or you are a late starter. Just had my first ovy with about 5 more building up. Good luck this season.

I think I will have to agree with Brian, I mean what kind of excitement do we have to look forward to in the Winter months out here in the Desert.. Just like Ground Hog, everyday the same boring old thing, 75 and Sunny with no clouds in sight.

Yes, but wait until the dreaded Burmese Pythons migrate in on their 4-wheelers and disrupt the ecosystem devouring all the Gila's and Chuckawalla's...
