What's my history?

jamesalternafan Feb 13, 2010 04:17 AM

This little girl hatched out last season. If you know who I am, don't guess. If you want to start locality drama, don't guess. If you look at this forum for fun and not sh*t talking, drama, or a sense of over-empowerment let me know what you think.

Also anyone who knows, what is the history of leucistic gray bands? Are they a hybrid?

Interesting looking. I've seen some wild caughts similar to those markings from River Road. Think some Davis' look a little like that too. If I found that animal myself in the wild it would be pretty cool but captive born alterna like that don't do much for me. Interesting but not great. Just my own opinion. Don't get bent out of shape about it. You asked. BA

rwindmann Feb 14, 2010 02:21 PM

I am with Alternator on River Road, but I think it could also be of Black Gap lineage. I personally don't see the Davis Mountain in it.

rwindmann Feb 14, 2010 07:44 PM

What about this one?

alternater Feb 14, 2010 09:24 PM

Looks "gapish" to me but suppose RR is always a possibility. Nice looking alterna. Congrats on your success with it. BA

chrisdrake Feb 14, 2010 09:42 PM

I would guess the first snake is from Lajitas and the second either black gap or Christmas mountains.

Chris

rwindmann Feb 15, 2010 01:36 PM

Yes, she's a black gap - hoping to breed her one day. My problem is I have one of everything, a pair of nothing. Sorry for the poor photography too.

What about this one?

alternater Feb 15, 2010 04:15 PM

Nice blairs! I'll guess Juno since I've found 3 similar to yours but it could be 277, Langtry or about anywhere east of Sanderson.

chrisdrake Feb 15, 2010 04:25 PM

I'm going to guess Sanderson on that one. Possibly 9 mile?
We didn't get an answer on the other I.D. or are you waiting for someone to get it right?

Chris

rwindmann Feb 15, 2010 05:58 PM

I answered Black gap on the first one I posted. The Blairs is highway 277, according to a very reputable breeder. I got him from Mr. Briggs at the Arlington show, he belongs to my daughter.

chrisdrake Feb 15, 2010 06:22 PM

I'm sorry. I was talking about the James snake. The one that started this post. Thats a nice blairs you posted.

Chris

rwindmann Feb 15, 2010 07:33 PM

Thanks! Ah, well the first one. To go to Mr. Fork's post, I didn't understand all the conflict and hostility in the original poster's message. I guess if we're just guessing, it's all in fun, then I guess it can be anything you want it to be - but most likely a generic, hahaha. Seriously, I think it's a river road.

What about this one?

chrisdrake Feb 15, 2010 08:05 PM

That one is giving me a hard time. I'm still working on my localities. My female Sanderson looks alot like that one but I'm thinking Alpine. Joe is probably laughing at me but I'm trying! This is good practice. Thats what I love about alterna. So variable.

Chris

rwindmann Feb 15, 2010 09:21 PM

You're getting there! South of Alpine, he is a Christmas Mountain.

If you're like me, after you can tell alterna from blairs, shortly after you get a good feel for what is east vs. west. Any more granular, and you get stung when you are absolutely sure down to a specific locality.

rwindmann Feb 15, 2010 09:23 PM

And actually, your guess is pretty good - everyone who sees this one thinks he a Davis Mountain - in person he has a stunning green hue.

Joe Forks Feb 15, 2010 04:28 PM

is how much trouble some folks have with very simple concepts.

You either KNOW the history of that snake, with certainty, or you do NOT know the history of that snake.

Why don't you EMPOWER yourself to get some alterna that you KNOW the history of - or don't get bent out of shape when folks call them what the are - generic.

"Looks like" does not cut the mustard for the list keeper. Sorry!

Or you know the history but did not get a family tree with pictures when you bought it. That seems to be a a very real possibility for some of us who started our collection in our early teens and have had these snakes for years before we decided to breed them. Hell when I was 13 and got dam of my hatchling I did not know or have any idea of what I needed to claim the locality, I figured the reciept from the reputable breeder would do (and even keeping track of that for 10 years is tough). Knowledge is power and now that I know I need a family tree with pictures I will accept nothing less.

Joe I mean no hard feelings towards you or the list I just always like seeing pics posted and posting pics myself here on the forum. Since all of the "list drama" the forum has gone silent and no one has posted anything. I feel like if I did not include that little warning that the forum would revert back to the drama filled state it previously was in.

Joe as long as you keep it consistent run the list exactly how it is now. I did not mean to attack you personally, if that is how it seemed. All I wanted was my pics to post and share what I have or think I have and to see what other people have or think they have without a major problem. Generic or not that hatchling I posted looks good whether you take the river rd to heart or not.

I just would like to encourage other people to post their animals even if they are questionable or generic so that the rest of the alterna community can enjoy them without argumentative posts.

rwindmann Feb 16, 2010 05:19 PM

The site is silent because we're in brumation, not because of a particular topic Your topic get us cranking again - so post some more - we love the guessing game, or can you tell?

rwindmann Feb 16, 2010 05:23 PM

Oh my God. How dare you post a photo on a generic!!! How dare you. Do you know how much hard drive space cost? I mean really.

Dude, the drama is fun. If there wasn't any drama here, this place would fizzle faster than islamic bacon.

chrisdrake Feb 16, 2010 05:59 PM

Islamic bacon?? NICE! You guys are crazy. lol. I don't mind the drama when it is justified but sometimes it gets ridiculous. I don't think you can have a forum about anything where everyone agrees on everything and everybody gets along. It's just not going to happen. To many personalities and opinions. I've seen other people post on the other forums that they will not post on the alterna forum anymore because of the bs and that is just sad. I think we could have the best forum on kingsnake because the passion most of us have for graybands.
I've only been going to West Texas for 6yrs and have kept alterna for 3 but I'm hooked and enjoy learning all I can here drama aside. When it comes to West Texas there is nowhere else I'd rather be. I've kept many different types of reptiles and graybands have become my favorite(and subocs Dusty)

Chris

rwindmann Feb 16, 2010 06:52 PM

No, really, in the middle east, they serve a thin, crappy cut of beef and call it kosher bacon. Taste like crap.

chrisdrake Feb 16, 2010 06:55 PM

Just thought the usage was funny.

I'm not falling for that one! No fuel here. I'm just here to learn and enjoy seeing everyone elses beautiful snakes.

As far as this goes, who gives a crap? Times have changed, you can't post anything meaningful on ANY forum and not have it used against us or the whole hobby. You (AND WE) are better off if you just e-mail your friends when you want to share something. The good old days are gone.

That sucks to hear. Hopefully more people give a crap than you think. It was fun while it lasted.

Hopefully the ones that give a crap will e-mail their friends and still have fun, while not posting information that ends up being used against us.

James,
I don't know how old you are but that page dates from around 1994 and the requirements have been exactly the same since day one. The page needed to be updated and I updated it.
