O. p. laticinctus - AXANTHIC!

Gidivandebelt Feb 13, 2010 05:18 AM

Hi All!

A few weeks ago a clutch of 4 eggs of laticinctus hatched, in the beginning all offspring’s seems healthy and normal coloration. But after the first shed I noticed two of them have some different coloration, and especially one, who almost seems some kind of axanthic, but normal head color.
I decided to keep all the offspring’s and see if they will keep this color in the future.
This story remind me to the mandarinus of Stefan.

This is the most special one, almost axanthic:

The same:

This is a comparision of a normal (right, and the "axanthic":

This is another quite interesting, not so axanthic but very faded:

Same:

All together:

What do you guys think about this?

Best regards,
Gidi van de Belt

Hey Gidi,

You lucky bastard, LOL! I do find the normal ones prettier though, but that's just silly old me.

Later, Herman.

Hi Herman!

Yes I find the normal ones also prettier, but this is far more exotic ...

Lets hope they will keep this color!

Best regards,
Gidi

Very interesting Gidi. Post some shots after the next shed or two. I would love to see how they progress.
Congrats!

Gidi,

I know you've produced Laticinctus before. Was this a first time pairing for the 2 adults? Exciting stuff, especially since not a lot of people are keeping these snakes. To have something new happen randomly is crazy.

Gidivandebelt Feb 14, 2010 04:08 AM

Hi Brian,

No this was not the first time for the both adults, allready gave me about 4 clucthes, and this was the very first anery I get.

Lets hope it is recesive and I can get more of them ...

Best regards,
Gidi

Very awesome indeed!!. I'm thinking since they generally get redder with age, and the fact that I see a bit of red on the tail, and it also still retains the yellow/brownish/olive colored head, that it might be more accurately termed a "hypoerythristic"(great reduction of red pigment), and not "axanthic", as that would actually be a complete "lack" of yellow.

That has a very similar looking phenotype that several other known "hypo-erythristic" snakes in the hobby display.

Extremely cool snake!,.....CONGRATULATIONS!!
