Switching to Superworms

wh1t3_mamba Feb 13, 2010 03:24 PM

I'm making the switch from crickets as a staple to superworms.

Both of my guys are just over 19 inches long and are voracious eaters. They will go after all that wiggles, so I want to be careful to not overfeed them.

How many worms do you give your dragons each day?

Many thanks!

If your dragons are 19" you should have no problem at all. They will go crazy for superworms, most dragons do. Give them as many as they want, just like crickets...you'll get the hang, just be sure to feed plenty of fresh greens like turnip, mustard ,collard [ I feed the greens first]...that is where the real nutrients come from. They should naturally slow down on the insects on their own....some people make up a ratio of how much of their food should be insect or veggie but if your dragons eat a good salad daily and are of good weight and healthy once they are mature, they will choose on their own how much of a percentage of insects to eat. That is my observation in 16 years and raising 1000's of them.If any beardie does begin to get too chubby, just cut back on the supers to every few days for a while.

Angie is correct with her response. Superworms are a good gutloaded insect for your beardies, sometimes if one indulges too much in them you may find a small regurgitated pile of them (its obviously not Fecal b/c you can easily see chopped up NON-DIGESTED worms) and if this happens you may want to slow down on them... Or if your beardie gets too overweight... lol. You should have no problem at all as long as greens are offered too. I have never had one of my adult beardies slow down on insects.... As long as they are offered a variety (crickets, mealworms, superworms, goliath worms, silkworms, butterworms, roaches) then they shouldnt be bored of anything and will always have enrichment in their diet to keep them entertained and occupied.
