Are there any pictures of the huge one you used to have in the 90's Tom?
One of my female het Pieds is 5500 on average. Very large girl.

What do you keep those big girls in?
Are you feeding a jumbo rat every week?
Thanks in advance!

I keep my big girl in a CB-70 vision rack and I feed her about every three weeks to a month, she eats jumbo rats.

Thanks, Brian!
I'm thinking of making the leap into adding some ball pythons to the collection.
Great looking snake!

Aaron, she is kept in a cb70 freedom breeder rack. She is also just as comfortable, believe it or not, in a sterlite 32qt. I feed her as much as she'll eat when she is eating....usually a jumbo rat or two per week. Most of the time, one doesn't even make a lump.

Thanks so much for the response, Brandon.
From the research I've been doing about balls, it seems as though they are shyer snakes and would feel more comfortable in an enclosure that was a little more "snug" than boas. CB70s seem to be the consensus for most females with the caveat that only the MONSTERS would need bigger. With you and Brian's girls happy in there, it seems they'd have to be HUGE to size themselves out of the rack. Great news for me as I have a bunch of CB70s empty.
With a little luck, I'll be getting my first ball python or two this weekend in a trade. The racks (and I) are ready to go!
Thanks again for posting!

I had a male ball that was 6'3" (not his shed skin either, actual string down the spine) never weighed him though. Ate 16 jumbo rats per year (white rats only PICKY!!). Off feed from oct-april every year.
I bought him in 1991 at 6ft the previous owner fed him on 6-lined ground squirrels that he trapped in a havahart.
Charlie was his name. He died at age 14 and is soarly missed.
AND YES I probed him male. Was JUST as shocked as you are!!!
He came into the pet store I worked at as a bush baby in june of 1986 Died in 2000 due to a thermostat failure.
REPORTEDLY there were bigger BPs at a zoo one supposedly hit 7ft.
The biggest BP I have seen in recent years has been Marc Bailey's het albino females. Average 12-15egg clutches and pushing softball diameter. Helps to have a rat breeding farm HUH!!!
God Bless, Lee Van Hyfte
I remember hearing about that snake a few years ago.
Thanks for the great story.
Sorry for your loss.

One of these days I will put one of my many photos up of him. It was a tad before the digital age. Just found a couple pics the other day that were buried in a box for ages.
He was my first "big" snake.
WAY Before BPs were cool.
He was quite the escape artist. Just had to follow the wreckage in the house to find him. Flower pots, photo frames, decorations knocked over.
Lee
But she's no slouch either. I'm 6'3" if it helps for size reference.
