Robert Ehrig Lewisi Hybrids

creaturemd Feb 13, 2010 09:02 PM

My ten year old Lewisi hybrid male was stolen from my yard in south florida in August. He was puppy dog tame and beautiful!!! After a period of mourning, I'm finally starting over and have recently purchased a hatchling male from David Blair. We are still waiting on a break in the weather to ship. Here's the thing, over the course of several years I had attempted to introduce my adult male to several different females always with the same result (lots of biting and rolling and blood!). I've read that lewisi pairs are best raised together from juvies to get good results when breeding. My stolen male was reportedly a cross between Blair's hybrids and stock from Robert Ehrig. I truly have never seen a more beautiful hybrid animal. I would really like to acquire a young female from Ehrig stock. Anyone know of anyone working with this bloodline? Is contact info available for Robert Ehrig? Thanks so much in advance.

Sorry for your loss. That really sucks. As far as ehrig hybrid's, I know there is a long list of people waiting for hatchlings, as his animals are not very consistent. I know of one person on here with ehrig lines, let him chime in if he wants. There's also Mark and Kevin, yet I am unsure of the origin of there animals. How was your animal stolen? Any pics/distinguishing marks? You never know who might run across it. Large male hybrids are not to common, especially if was very attractive.

He disappeared from my back yard while I was out of town for a few days. By the time I got back and found him gone he could have been missing for up to 5 days. I handed out 600 flyers with color photos and put up so many signs I got a call from the local police department asking me to take them down. I offered a LARGE reward but to no avail. I got lots of calls about roaming greens but no information whatsoever on my boy. He was so large and so ridiculously tame that I am certain had he managed to escape on his own and been perusing the neighborhood someone would have seen him. He would run right up to anyone looking for a handout. I'm convinced that someone noticed I was gone for a few days and decided to snoop around the property for anything of value. What they found was a very large, very sweet iguana and probably thought "this might be valuable." I'm sure whoever took him had no idea what they had. I cringe to think some moron has him in a 55 gallon aquarium in their basement somewhere. I will try to post some photos although much to my embarrassment I am not very computer savvy. Thanks so much for the replies and the sympathy. Not too many folks understand emotional attachment to a big scaly reptile .

Sorry for your loss. Was he chipped?? Was he free roaming while you were gone??Animals of high reguard (NOT JUST PURITY) should be chipped it helps in getting them returned from animal control. My animals are chipped and cages are locked if they want them they're gonna work for them.Security camera's are an option to..It's sad that we have to go to these measures better safe than sorry I say..I am working with an Ehrig female 9 year old with a KWE male..before anyone asks I have no hatchlings.I'm hoping to produce this year she is bonded with this male and did mate last year with him but didn't reproduce due to relocation.Lets all hope Tom(new hatchling is doing great),Kevin,Bob,Mark and anyone else working with these great animals has a good breeding season the more we produce good hybrids the better the gene pool.

In the words of Bill Clinton, "I feel your pain". I would be crushed if my 13 year old ehrig American lewisi got stolen. He and "baby" his mate, an ehrig female are by far my favorite lizards. Bob E, hasn't had any fertile eggs in a while, but so far my 08 American lewisi I got from crutchfield is lookin pretty good and that could be an option for you too. I have an 09 American lewisi also from crutchfield, but it wont be till next year until I start to see the lizards potential, but so far it on track to being a nice lewisi.
